nowadays I think 99.99% of computer mouse we can find in the market no matter they are wired or wireless are optical and emit laser from from the bottom. Could the cheap wired or wireless mouse from unknown brand release higher intensity or more harmful kind of laser because they may
not fulfill the safety standard like the famous and expensive brand?
laser radiation is not harmful, unless you look at it directly. and all modern consumer lasers are jus led’s.
Nope. Not a real laser, just a diode that watches for movement. The light that you see is just there for show pretty much. The blue “laser’ works better than the red, with those mice like the MX series being better. Do not cheap on input devices.

They are lasers powered by light made by LED. They are also diffused so focal point is only few milometers and can't be harmful any further even if they are much stronger than they actually are but their power is very low anyway. Lift it up a bit and when it stops registering movement, that's their focal point where light is strongest.
The light emitter could be either a LED or Laser Diode, it does not matter which. The LED is cheaper. There is some optics in front of that such that the emitter and detector are arranged to detect the reflection from a surface.
The light is divergent, so the light is a big blob further from the mouse, so energy density is much lower and no danger.
A cheap mouse will have fake approval labels on it. Very unlikely to have a higher power LED/Laser Diode as that would cost them more. The cheap optics would probably diverge the light even more, so no danger.
Along those lines, laser pointers etc. I just recently bought a time of flight module for a rover I'm building. It uses lasers, low powered eye safe ones. I specifically looked for an eye safe version. I have pets and kids I don't want harmed by my toys.
It's going to be mounted on the front facing forward and used for obstacle avoidance. I have toyed with removing the laser etc from broken mice and repurposing them. Its just usually easier to buy something ready made that works with minimal effort. In my younger days I'd have enjoyed the challenge, not so mush these days lol.
I have laser on a rifle and another one is in collimatory sight, first one is very powerful, can see dot at very long distance but that's quite secondary to what comes out of the barrel while the one in the sight, even being just inches from the eye is not a problem although must be stronger than one in the mouse as it can be seen in sunlight.Along those lines, laser pointers etc. I just recently bought a time of flight module for a rover I'm building.
