Surface Ucsi Device Error Code 43. USB-C to HDMI facing issues.

    Hi all,

I have been using an external monitor with my Surface Book 2 for a couple months now via a USB C to HDMI connection.

A few days back the connection started disconnecting and immediately reconnecting sporadically. I.e. the monitor turns black, then back on again with the USB connected sound effect every time this occurs. Looking at the Device Manager, have noticed that under Universal Serial Bus controllers there is a yellow exclamation mark beside the Surface Ucsi Device, with "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)".

Uninstalling and reinstalling all drivers did not help. Windows is fully updated.

    Thanks.

Hi jonnehbravo. Welcome to the TheForunms @jonnehbravo

Four days ago was patch Tuesday, Windows Updates.

Could you please what was installed.

Start > Settings > Updates and Security > View update history

Window updates are at the top of the list, way down at the bottom is others and Drivers. Please examine all three categories.

Are you using an Imaging tool like Macrium Reflect to make System Images (backups)?

Thanks for the response Caledon Ken.

No I am not using any Imaging tool. Backups are done via Windows backup only to an external hard drive.

Here are the updates from this month:

Interesting. If you look at your updates from a few days ago they installed successful but quite a few re-installed, KB4489907, KB4489899 and KB4486553.

Checking my system I don't have the same behaviour.

How are you re-installing driver for USB. It seems to be listed several times. Did you get driver from MS in a download or did you allow Windows to search the Internet for latest. When you removed device did you also delete software.

I would investigate a tool like Macrium. MS is shelving their backup and as an Image tool some have not had favourable results. Guess that could be said about any backup software but Macrium is far and away more reliable.

How much do you trust Macrium Reflect?

Always try a new cable and HDMi port, before ruling out driver problems.

    hi jonnehbravo,

I experienced the same issue. What i did to solve the problem, was to disconnect the screen/monitor from the keyboard. Next, clean the joints and terminals that connect the screen to the keyboard. After doing that, connect the screen back to the keyboard.

I hope this simple steps solve the problem.
