USB Type-C Hub does not work with extension cable

I purchased the Satechi USB Type-C hub for my PC. My motherboard has a Type-C connector on the rear I/O. The hub works fine if I connect it directly to the port but the cable is only 12" so I purchased a USB 3.1 Type -C male to female extension cable. But Windows gives me a USB Device Not Recognized when I connect it through the extension cable. So I purchased another cable from a different manufacturer and its the same thing. Is there a specific cable that needs to be used for a hub?

There error in device manager goes like this:

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

Full-featured USB-C cables that implement USB 3.1 Gen 2 can handle up to 10 Gbit/s data rate at full duplex. They are marked with a SuperSpeed+ (SuperSpeed 10 Gbit/s) logo.

There are also cables which can carry only USB 2.0 with up to 480 Mbit/s data rate. There are USB-IF certification programs available for USB-C products and end users are recommended to use USB-IF certified cables.[12]
Do you have the correct cable type?

Also note the increased speed options above USB3.1 - which could be cable critical I guess.

Then there could be power issues:
    All USB-C cables must be able to carry a minimum of 3 A current (at 20 V, 60 W) but can also carry high-power 5 A current (at 20 V, 100 W).[10]

I believe so. Both cables I have are 3.1 Type-C extension male to female.

    Here is one of them

You don´t need a 10 Gbit/s-capable cable, since the hub is a USB 3.0 device. Try a good USB 3.0 compatible cable, which is cheaper and can be longer. Note that this doesn´t guarantee that the hub will be recognized, the problem may be other one.

    The USB-names game: 10 Gbit/s is now called “USB 3.2 Gen.2”. 5 Gbit/s, the old USB 3.0, is now “USB 3.2 Gen. 1”. You don´t need a “Gen. 2” cable, just a “Gen.1” one.

All type-c extension cables are classified as 3.1 that I've come across. I can't seem to find a 3.0 type-c male to female.

"USB 3.1" can mean USB 3.1 Gen. 1 (5 Gbit/s), or USB 3.1 Gen. 2 (10 Gbit/s). The cable you posted about in #3 is described as 10 Gbit/s compatible and its length es 1 m, which is consistent with a Gen. 2 cable. (In the current terminology, it seems that "3.1" is not used anymore, now is 3.2 Gen. 1/2).

What I suggested was to try a "Gen.1" cable, since the hub is Gen.1. Among others, I found this in Amazon, which is 2.0 m long, therefore Gen. 1:

USB C Extension Cable,Stouchi USB Type C Male to Female Fast Charging & Audio Data Transfer Cable Compatible for Nintendo Switch, Thunderbolt 3 MacBook Pro, Google Pixel 2 2 XL 3(6 FT)

The Satechi hub is also listed in Amazon, you could post a question about extension cables.

I contacted Satechi support asking why extension cables don't work with their hub. I just have to wait and see what they say.

You may need a powered hub, since some non-powered do not always work correctly.
