Samsung EVO 850 SSD no longer working after WIN10 1809 upgrade

I confirm that my Desktop PC, with a rather old MB (Asus P5Q-Turbo + 8Gb RAM + Intel ICH10R AHCI interface) together with an EVO 850 SSD did not work anymore after the Win10 1809 upgrade.

When the PC was successfully booting, it hanged after a few minutes (frozen with the mouse pointer still moving.)
When trying to reboot, the system was trying to repair the PC without success, leaving something wrong in the boot process.
Each time, I had to restore the SSD boot disk from a backup image in order to reboot.

It happened also with a previous WIN10 upgrade (1709 if I remember well) and I was able to fix the issue by replacing Microsoft generic driver with an original Intel AHCI driver.

This time with the 1809 upgrade, I was unable to fix the issue.
I've tested many different Intel drivers versions and tweaked various parameters to no avail .

I've also copied the SSD image to a standard HDD and the system is fully working without any problem in 1809 release.
And it is still working today... although very slowly on the HDD !.

As I could no longer spend more time trying to fix that issue, I've eventually decided to buy a new Desktop and reinstall WIN10Pro from scratch and all my applications.

    Thank you
    Yves

The MBO apparently dates from around 2009.

Perhaps you have answered your own complaint...

There is absolutely no guarantee that old hardware will be supported by later operating systems.

Yes, people upgrade their PCs regardless of thought of specification, and a lot of the time even PCs first released with Vista (e.g.) happen to work with Win 10. If so, they are fortunate.

Even if one build of Win 10 provides appropriate drivers for old hardware, there's no guarantee later ones will.

Not sure who you're angry with, or just frustrated. Just to be sure, if you were hoping you were complaining to MS, this forum is NOT run by MS - just fellow-users, who are sometimes struggling and frustrated too.

    and all my applications
People have found that simply cloning their system drive, or physically transferring it into a new PC works and Windows reconfigures itself in the new environment.

However a new installation may be wise expecially if there are already any niggling problems.

Easeus and Laplink offer one-time use programs to transfer programs and settings to a new build, e.g. from a disk image of the old one.

Also note that no-one forced you to upgrade to 1809- there are ways of stopping Windows update (search 'completely' on this forum) which would have allowed you to continue to use that PC had you wished.

Moving to a new PC, you will face a licensing issue. This may help - remember to view appropriate links:

Yes I know it was an old MB.
But it was doing the job, even to draw 3D cad drawings.
I just wanted to tell people about that problem with the SAMSUNG EVO SSD drive.
Many other people have also freezing problems with Samsung EVO SSD disks with the last WIN10 version.

But of course, as you wrote, I'm angry to see my fully running PC being sent to ghost in one update.
And it's not only a battle with MS but also for example with Corel a few months ago with their CDR X8 software.
There was a bug and they told me that my system was too old, full stop!
It ended up the support ticket.
OK, now that I've a brand new PC, I've reinstalled Corel X8 under the fresh WIN10 1809.
    Same bug !
Nowadays, we do not know who to trust?

Also note that no-one forced you to upgrade to 1809- there are ways of stopping Windows update (search 'completely' on this forum) which would have allowed you to continue to use that PC had you wished.
I know that, thanks to remind me that I can stop the auto update. I'll do.
But the update frequency is soooo high that you don't know when to update or not.
Does it fix a security issue or not?
Anyway, everybody knows that the 1809 release was a disaster, and I'm wondering if my problem will not quietly be fixed in a few weeks or months .+
Today there was another important update
    It addresses 36 issues ...
Do you read all the lines in the KB releases notes?
It's not my daily newspaper... I've sometimes to work with my system.

In all your complaints it keeps coming back to the same issue, that your motherboard hardware is too old for Corel, Samsung and Microsoft Windows 1809. I'm sorry, I have a Samsung EVO SSD with 10 year old hardware and it does not freeze with 1809. 1809 is not a disaster. I have done clean installs on several computers, many older then yours. So, there is no magic bullet for your system that Microsoft, Samsung or Corel is going to issue to save you.
If I were you, I would back every thing up to an external drive and do a Clean Install of Windows 10 1809 on the Samsung EVO and see if it performs better.
