I looked around for Event ID 430 but couldn't find anything useful.

Sorry... I have no more suggestions except trying to tie the problem down with Sysinternals/Technet's Process Monitor.

Process Monitor has a bit of a learning curve but the process is:

    1. Run Process Monitor (using Run as administrator).
    2. Stop logging.
    3. Clear log.
    4. Begin logging.
    5. Install wpdmtp.inf.
    6. Stop logging when error dialog appears.
    7. Examine logging filtered on 'Results' (column) which are not 'SUCCESS'.
okay, i downloaded it, stopped capturing, cleared the log, resumed capturing, installed wpdmtp.inf, stopped capturing and there were many errors repeating:
    especially these two:
    HKCR\CLSID\{56AD4C5D-B908-4F85-8FF1-7940C29B3BCF}\Instance
    HKCU\Software\Classes\CLSID\{56AD4C5D-B908-4F85-8FF1-7940C29B3BCF}\Instance

{56AD4C5D-B908-4F85-8FF1-7940C29B3BCF} just seems to be a class identifier reference to shell32.dll (in my registry, at least)... so that doesn't appear relevant to USB.

I would have expected your USB issue to result in a FAILURE rather than FILE NOT FOUND (which usually means that the search just continues through the registry until the key, value or data is found.

Try right-clicking on a FILE NOT FOUND entry (in the 'Results' column) and choosing "Exclude 'FILE NOT FOUND'" then do the same again but for SUCCESS. This will filter the list greatly.

Also, the error results in an Event Log entry so see if there's any entries for WerFault.exe in the 'Process Name' column.

And... make sure you're at the log of the log then do Edit > Find for usb... just to see if anything occurs.

alright, there were no WerFault.exe but i found something that may or may not be interesting:

Q1. Is the account you are using a member of the Administrators group?

Q2. Have you been using the Run as Administrator right-click option on the iTunes installer? (You shouldn't need to... the installer from Apple is a standard MSI installer so should hand off to Trusted Installer).

Q3. That's a thought... did you get iTunes from Apple or from the Microsoft Store? (I've never used the MS Store.)

Q4. Is there (or can you create) another account as a member of the Administrators group (just in case there's an issue with your current profile).

It all seems as if the iTunes installation of Apple device drivers was mostly successful but failed to properly replace the built-in MS MTP driver, hence why neither of your phones are now working as expected.

I have to admit that a reset would sort any potential profile issue and default (buildt-in) MS MTP driver to re-establish a baselne. It's just that a reset takes so l-o-o-o-n-g. (IMO a clean install is quicker.)

You seemingly keep forgetting that OP has exactly the same issue with another device, SONY Xperia.

The only commonality I see between these two devices is that both should install as MTP devices - so issue is buried somewhere here rather than within iTunes.

I thought "hence why neither of your phones are now working as expected" in my last post recognised that. The enhanced Apple drivers add Application Support (e.g. iTunes Library connect/sync) and DFU modes alongside basic MTP.

I have no experience of SONY Xperia's except I thought Android devices operated in just 2 basic USB modes - MTP or Mass Storage, selectable on the device. I could be wrong though.

Fair enough and you are correct - it's just MTP or Mass Storage available there.

In either case: from my limited browsing on the Internet it would appear that the quickest (and sad) remedy is to get Windows 10 reinstalled / refreshed unfortunately.

    Yes

    No

when the proplem started it was the itunes from apple site, but during the uninstalling and reinstalling i've been doing i ended up with the itunes from the MS site

i already tried to use the hidden administrator account and tried to update the drivers, didn't work

I think you've done an excellent job of troubleshooting. It seems to have narrowed down the culprit but, unfortunately, hasn't identified a cure despite your many efforts and progress.

    I think your options are:

    a) Try another account (not the hidden Administrator account... IMO that should never be used for 3rd-party application installs) but a newly created account in the Administrators group. Un-install iTunes then re-install from Apple, not Microsoft Store (using 'Run as administrator').

    b) Reset Windows and sign-in with a local account (which can always be changed to a sign-in with a Microsoft Account later). This will:

    1) create a sign-in account that is free of any possible corruption;

    2) let you check whether both phones connect again using MS' 'Standard MTP' hardware driver, thus testing the USB cables in use;

Once that's established to your satisfaction then move forward to install iTunes from the Apple store, not the Microsoft Store.

It's obviously your choice but option A may not work and so, given the amount of time you have spent so far with no success, I suggest option B is preferable.

    Hope this helps...
