Technical issue - mouse buttons "manual" customizing?

I own an old Labtec mouse (model M-BAA130) which I'm using in Win10 64.
The mouse is working regularly for standard operation, but I can't perform any advanced configuration (side buttons, middle click and so on) because the OS "sees" it as a standard MS PS/2. Needless to say, no "official" drivers are available from Logitech (who acquired Labtec years ago).
Maybe, who knows, the mouse could be successfully... driven by forcing the OS to see it as another similar laser mouse, but then again information seem to be impossible to find (I wasn't able to, anyway).

However, I noticed that the "unseen" buttons do actually work; the side ones, for example, produce "back" and "forward" moves between pages inside the web browser. This seems to prove that the OS actually detects those buttons and also their events. So I thought that the links between their clicks and the associated actions have to be written somewhere and maybe, being written, they can also be edited somehow.
    Any ideas or suggestions?

PS. I obviously know I could solve everything simply... buying a new mouse. After all, the "buy something solution" is one of the most common nowadays.
However, as I wrote in the title, I'm interested in the technical side of the matter. And yes, I admit it, I don't like at all the idea of throwing away things that still work.

Hi, as an outside possibility, you might try a tool such as DriverMax (some like DriverBooster- not tried). These programs are ones I would advise never to be used routinely. However, I have used DriverMax in the past (free for 2 drivers per day) when I've not found a driver by normal means.

    You might try:
Labtec Mouse Drivers Download for Windows 10, 7, 8/8.1, Vista (64/32 bits)

I don't like at all the idea of throwing away things that still work.
    - totally agree- I even had a mouse microswitch replaced in a great grubby repair place I found when in China - but wouldn't suggest that alone is worth the trip

I thank you for your answer and your support. Maybe I'm too cautious (or scared), but I don't like "trying" EXE files downloaded around.
A simple set of mouse drivers (*.inf files and so on) doesn't actually need to be packaged as an executable file; a zip file would be more than enough and quite safer (or... less risky). Too many times in the past, after just a few... wrong clicks, I spent hours in just restoring things as they were before. I learned that often "free drivers" downloaded from sites bearing "safe sounding" names end up being not drivers at all, but programs which install themselves and then perform, at best, some system scanning and advert delivering. I'm not saying that all of those scanning and driver providing programs are dangerous or useless; I've no doubt that some of them can prove quite useful to many people, but I think their usefulness tends to be inversely proportional to the level of technical knowledge of the user. Maybe I'm conceited, but I think I'm able to personally manage the device drivers installed on my computer.

Besides, I really don't think that useful drivers for my old (and every day rarer) mouse have actually been released. Who could have any real interest in designing and distributing them (for free)?
No doubt the manufactures, if they wanted to, could easily and with little expense provide solutions to the little (but widespread) problems like this, but the universal rule is always the same: throw away and buy...

    Then try Drivermax or similar.

As for exe's - I can understand your caution- naturally I didn't investigate that site in detail.

I'm curious if SetPoint would work.

I tried it, with no luck. It does not detect supported devices.
I also tried installing it in a virtual machine and exploring its folders, just in case they could contain some drivers, but I found nothing. It looks like the actual driver is delegated to the OS (which indeed detects the mouse and also its buttons), while customizing requires some additional specific program.
SetPoint itself seems to be such a program, as its official description says: "... lets you customize your mouse buttons, keyboard F-keys and hot-keys, control tracking speed, and configure other device-specific settings". Nothing related to drivers is mentioned.

So I'm back to my doubt: where has Windows saved the actually existing mouse button assignments?

    Try Drivermax.

If a program saves settings in the registry you can use
    Regshot (free)
    to identify changes made.

While you may have found a solution, others reading may not have. I searched for years for software to be able to use some of my old Logitech mouses and keyboards. I was searching for something that would either be light weight or just modify registry entries, thus using native Microsoft drivers.

For the mouse, I found "X-Mouse Button Control," https://www.highrez.co.uk/downloads/...tonControl.htm. I made this account to be able to respond to you. It has controls way beyond setpoint, and I suspect what you use.

For the keyboard, there is a registry editor that lets you redefine keys, and does not have to stay resident. It is called "KeyTweak," http://www.tucows.com/preview/327616. I didn't find a homesite for it, but Tucows is one of the oldest sites, so I trust it. I put the names of the software, as I am not sure they won't strip the html links.

Good luck, and support these developers if their product helps you.
