Surface Book 2 USB and Docking Problems
Has anyone encountered this issue?
ALWAYS after startup, my Surface Book 2 touchpad freezes for 1-3 seconds several times. After it's done freezing, it gives off the "USB has connected" sound, stops freezing, then does it again and again for about 4-5 times. After it's done with that, it NEVER freezes again until the next startup. What's funny is that, during the freeze, the touch on the screen still works with no problems.
Additionally, NONE of the USB slots are working, despite uninstalling all usb drivers in device manager, disabling suspension of usb in regedit, and reformatting.
I'm guessing this is a hardware issue?
The Surface Book 2 is on the Windows 10 build 17134
This is what happens when my surface base touchpad freezes. It makes a USB connection sound, then shows this in device manager, then it makes another of the same sound, and it resolves. When it resolves, touchpad can be used, but this repeats and freezes about 4-5 times every startup

Hi Nanodice
If you do a restart do you get the same activity and troubled devices or is this just on a power on start?
Have you tried to id any of the devices with the yellow exclamation marks?
Right click Start, click Device Manager, right click device you are having issue with, click “Properties”, click on “Details” tab, in “Property” box use the drop down to select “Hardware IDs”, copy and paste first line in “Value” box to Google. Google can usually tell you what device driver you are looking for.

It happens after restarts as well. It also happens when the computer turns the screen off after some time (not sleeping). Although in those situations, it doesn't start doing that until i plug some usb devices in. The usbs will still not work after freezing

Have you tried identifying any of the devices with exclamations.
I don't have Surface but I assume you can enter BIOS and reload defaults.
Have you run SFC /scannow just to see if Windows has any integrity errors.

Hi Nanodice, understand that this is an old thread but i just found it while doing a search for a problem. I am having the exact same problem with my Surface Book 2. Did you end up resolving your problem and if so how?
Thanks.
