W10 won't work right with DVD drive HP BD MLT UJ240

The cited DVD-ROM drive works fine once recognized by W10. But most of the time I need to eject using the paper-clip insert into the eject button on the drive. Sometimes it'll work okay if I manually spin the disk and then close the drive.

I have a second external USB HDD that I use when I need to use a DVD drive. But I'd like to use the internal drive.

Is there a newer driver for this hardware? I can't find one.... If necessary I will replace the drive, but I hate to do that when it works albeit with much manipulation.

Sounds more like the Drive has had it than a driver issue buddy.

I don't understand your suggested helpful response.

Please be more specific. The drive has had the problem ever since I installed it new out of the box. Are you saying that the hardware may be kaput?

It might be time to replace it judging by the age of your computer. I had to replace mine recently on my old Haswell system.

You can replace your internal DVD-RW drive in your desktop computer for around $20

Yes. I've been searching ebay and elsewhere and can get what I need for around $100. What I'm replacing is blu-ray R/W in the slim design. Not so easy to find.

Cost isn't the main reason for my query. I'm mostly frustrated that the drive works fine to read/write blu ray but I need to work to get it to spin up or eject - but it does work. That's why I figured that it might be a driver issue. The box ix hard to open. Sides come off fine but the front bezel has some difficult clips.

It's had the spin-up/eject issue out of the box and I should've returned it a year ago.

The Driver is generic from Windows 10, some manufacturers add a service.
No doubt you will have already tried the uninstall Device, then the auto re-install.

The slim line Laptop drives are very flimsy and prone to dust build up.

You say it had the problem out of the box which means bad quality control. All you can do is examine it yourself possibly fix it, or buy a new one.
