    My wireless mouse oddity

I purchased this wireless mouse in 2017 from a Carrefour supermarket along with grocery. (I use it since then once a week with an old Dell Inspiron N5010 notebook)

A few days later its scrolling wheel started to fail. I contacted the mouse representative here in Brazil and, after some argument, they sent me a new one, which worked OK until a couple of months ago. Now the scrolling wheel problem is back, I can't find any driver update, but again contacted them and I am waiting for their response.

The oddity of this case starts now. The mouse trademark is Bright, and I said "mouse representative" before because they present themselves on their website as importers and distributors—not manufacturers. So it's no surprise their website doesn't have a software and drivers download section.

When I go check the mouse stuff in my system, I get different things about it.

    The Device Manager shows this:

    My wireless mouse oddity-mousesh1.png

    Pluralinput Mouse 1.0 twice!

Then I go to Settings > Devices to find this:

    My wireless mouse oddity-mousesh2.png

Under Mouse, keyboard, & pen, I have this "USB Composite Device". And right below the mouse appears under Other devices and again twice as "Pluralinput Mouse".

So I decided to seek this Pluralinput thing, since I haven't ever heard of it before and never installed anything from it AFAIK.

First, no result from Windows Search in my system. On the web there is this Pluralinput website. And here at Tenforums I found this 2015 thread: Pluralinput Mouse driver 0.8.6 frequently stops working Solved - Windows 10 Forums.

All I want is to solve the scroll wheel issue. But I got a bit paranoid about this Pluralinput thing! WTH is it? Did it take over the original mouse driver? Did it install itself like malware?

I hope you fellows here can give me some help. TIA.

    This looks like software.

Did you install any kind of CD / DVD when you installed the mouse originally.

Is the software listed in your apps (within settings) ?

The mouse came without any media, I just plugged it in and I guess Windows installed its drivers automatically.

I also guess that once I started to use the new one (the first one's scrolling wheel started to fail) Windows used the previously installed drivers.

And, as I said before, there's no reference to the software in the system (Settings > Apps or Control Panel, nothing in C:\Program files or C:\Program Files (x86) folders). The only references to it are shown in the devices sections of the OS (images posted before).

If you go back into device manager and show hidden devices are there any hidden mice that you can delete.

Then if you go to update driver, browse my computer, Let me pick, is a Microsoft mouse driver available?.

Try manually removing the Mouse driver, restarting and manually install it from these downloads Support

There is another Pluralinput Mouse 1.0 (hidden). It makes three of it.

    This shows:

    HID-compliant device
    HID-compliant mouse
    Pluralinput Mouse 1.0.

I want to figure out this Pluralinput thing first. Should I remove or keep it? Replace it with the HID-compliant options?

Google PluralInput. Looks like it is software to allow multiple input devices.

Windows can mis-identify devices and load the wrong driver... I said can, not did.

    Done before starting thread.

I googled "HID-compliant mouse" and found this:

Fix HID-compliant Mouse Not Working on Windows 10 | Driver Talent

I'll try uninstalling all the mouse drivers and restart the computer. Let's see what happens.

I uninstalled all the Pluralinput drivers, visible and hidden, restarted, and now the Device Manager shows "HID-compliant mouse" twice, no hidden item. I tried to update but Windows says I have the best drivers.

But the mouse scrolling wheel problem's not solved.

Is there some sort of "universal" or "generic" driver or a software I can use to fix or, at least, know for sure this mouse is somehow broken and that my last resort is to replace it?

    Update:
It just occurred to me I didn't say what the
scrolling wheel problem is. It is working, but not perfectly. I don't know the exact word to say what it does, so I'll try to describe it. For example, I roll it down, then it's like it freezes a bit, then it rolls backwards a bit, then it keeps roling down, then repeats. It's not like my desktop PC's cord mouse, with which I scroll all the way up or down smoothly.

Any chance you have another PC you can test on.

If not, do you have another OS you can test with. There is a recovery disk found here

Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk

You could create and test with. Also lots of Linux distros. I use Ubuntu, don't install, just test. If you install it changes boot.

If problem moves to other OS's I think it is pointing to mouse issue. If it doesn't then you can do further analysis on installed OS.

If it were software I think the behaviour would be consistent. That said could be a specific combination of software. Do you notice more in one app or after using a specific app.
