I have two more questions. One is about the dual channel and the other is a question about the M.2 socket 3 sockets. My computer came with 16GB Intel Optane Memory. I never set it up because I just swapped the SSD from my old computer to my new computer. My questions are:
    1. Could this be the reason why I can't use the memory in dual channel mode?
    2. Instead of using the 16GB Optane memory can I either use it as a SSD or even buy a larger M.2 drive and replace it. My board has another M.2 slot that as I understand when used disables the slot with the Optane memory.

    1) I don't believe so.

    2) A 16GB is intended to be set up as a disk cache. It requires a motherboard that supports that function. (Like yours.) I've never used it. It's kind of small for use as an SSD, although I expect that you could do it. You could replace it with a larger M.2 SSD. There are even Optane drives that are intended to be used as SSDs, although I don't see any M.2 ones much larger than 100GB at Newegg. I believe that their read rates are about the same as fast SSDs, but their write times are much faster (about the same as their read times).

I would check the memory module labelling they should have the same production date code, chip code and pcb version number when bought as a pair for dual channel operation. If they don't there can be enough differences that they won't run in dual channel mode.
Memory modules from the QVL list or very similar specifications should work, but some might not.

I have had MOBOs which had to have memory modules manufactured at around the same time as later production used newer chips and pcbs and they just would not work, so I had to get some second hand ones from Ebay and ask for photos of the labelling with appropriate date and chip code.

Optane memory is meant for a mechanical HDD (SATA) to speed it up a bit, no use at all if you have replaced an HDD with an SSD either in a SATA or M.2 slot. You have made that 16 GB redundant.

M.2 SSD interface is a lot faster than the older SATA interface, so for speed with an SSD you should be using one in the M.2 slot rather than a SATA SSD.
