Cannot rename Printer port in Printer properties.

My the IP port number for my default network printer was changed. I was able to enter "printer properties" and change to the new IP, and I can print. However, the "Port Name" in printer properties has remained the old IP number. Unlike in "Printer Name or IP Address" box, I cannot enter new text to rename the port. I'm the administrator on this machine and have all permissions. I've had this same problem back in my Win7 days and never got it solved.

Is your printer using a Static IP (one you set on printer) or a reserved IP address (one you set in router)?

Well if the printer has a static ip address then it is not going to let you rename it through printer properties.

You have to go to printer ( or router) and clear the static IP.

You would like know if you did this. For a router to reserve an address you have to log into the router and then navigate the appropriate panels to reserve.

The printer on the other hand could have been set up static through the installation software.

Does the printer always get the same IP address? Something like 192.168.1.xx

Which printer is this (Make / Model). The book of words should be able to walk you through to the address panels.

Thanks for your efforts and info. It explains why this happens on occasion. Considering I'm only going to be on the job for another week, I'm not going to worry about it. When I'm done with these jobs I delete all the printers that I needed to add for their work.
