AMD UI Won't Install 1709,1809,19H1/ Ryzen Quad Core

I tried almost everything, but the AMD UI won't install on 1709,1809 and 19H1. Out of 30 fresh install, I've seen the RadeonSettings.exe only ounce (18312 or 17). Searching Radeon on C: returns no result.
If I don't install the Lenovo driver ( r0uru03w.exe) before enabling Internet, it ends in a no end loop with a brightness issue and all kinds of error messages. We also have a brightness issue in Linux and many more robust issues:

The machine is not compatible with Linux ISO images, boot line must be tweaked with iommu=soft to boot them. We have no network under Kernel 4.18.20, brightness level is at zero after a fresh install for all Ubuntu's except Tumbleweed. It took a big 5 weeks to find solutions.

One bug remains and it is under Win 10, if the AMD UI is not there, all Linux images are introducing a brightness bug in Ten. Also, the amount of drivers in WU varies from 8 to 18. Born date of our new testing machine is Dec 7th and we still don't know how many drivers that we should have.

18323.1000 Vanilla. It is not on board and the only way to get the Lenovo driver (AMD UI) to work is by disabling Secure Boot.

It should boot Linux with no issues, since it is a newer computer. No changes in GRUB needed. As for the AMD tool, you do not need it for that APU/CPU/GPU. The Lenovo driver should not be a problem either. There is something else going on that is causing this. Backup essential files, and I would look at possibly doing a clean install of the Microsoft Windows 10 ISO, not the Lenovo version with all of the junk built in. Download Windows 10 Disc Image (ISO File) This is the driver you need. Radeon™ RX Vega 64 Drivers Support | AMD

    Radeon App Version 17.7

The AMD folder is not shown nor the Radeon app in Start or in Regedit for about 30 clean install. Plus, anything above version 17 .7 won't install= Lenovo drivers. Prior to this, if we don't get the Lenovo AMD Drivers Kit before enabling Internet, will never get the Radeon app. Without it, the brightness have been never at 100%, even if Windows indicates 100%.

For Linux, it seems to be a firmware bug. If we don't tweak the boot line ALL Linux ISO images will boot in a black screen.

The easiest method is from Ten (Ubuntu's boot folder) in the grub.cfg file we must edit the following not to end in a black screen. This modification migrates in Grub and works for all Ubuntu's. Not for Tumbleweed = e terminal.

    Ubiquity>ISO image>boot>grub>grub.cfg>Open with NotePadd++>edit>save &exit>Mint Tessa>compatility mode bootline

    Code:
    linux /casper/vmlinuz file=/cdrom/preseed/linuxmint.seed boot=casper xforcevesa iso-scan/filename=${iso_path} ramdisk_size=1048576 root=/dev/ram rw noapic noacpi nosplash irqpoll -- iommu=soft
    Code:
    cat /proc/cmdline
    BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-5.0.0-050000rc1-generic root=UUID=9f2742ed-1e34-4489-93a8-d97de7c5b6f7 ro iommu=soft quiet splash vt.handoff=1

For the Radeon app, if we make an error after the clean install, we have to redo the clean install= stability issues. For now, I did not try anything and for the first time, Device Manager shows AMD drivers instead of the Win 10 generic driver.

    Go figure!

You have to remove the Lenovo branded driver and either let Windows 10 install the Microsoft signed driver or download and install the AMD driver I linked. The black screen with Linux is not a firmware issue, it is a Xorg issue with certain AMD APU/CPU/GPU combo's. It is an issue that has been around for a long time. You have to change bios settings to Legacy from UEFI, disable Safe boot for security, etc.. This will help you understand more about Xorg and also the AMDGPU driver for Linux. Xorg - ArchWiki

The Brightness Loop: 18323 Alongside Tessa

The screenshot was taken immediately after the fresh install. The cursor is at zero, but level is at 100%. We have to compile the stable Kernel to get the WIFI network, upon restart the brightness level is at 5%. If we set it to maximum before restart, there will be no variation. This issue is also present in the Mint installer. The brightness is reset near 10% in all distros that we have tried, but once it is properly set it won't come back.

Apart this bug, it runs very well on both sides.

    Code:
    lsb_release -a && uname -r
    No LSB modules are available.
    Distributor ID:	LinuxMint
    Description:	Linux Mint 19.1 Tessa
    Release:	19.1
    Codename:	tessa
    5.0.0-050000rc4-generic
    mokutil --sb-state
    SecureBoot enabled
    @ bro67, Thanks for replying.

Windows does not install properly the Radeon app, the only way to get it or to tweak the Graphic card is by using Lenovo proprietary drivers before enabling Internet. If we don't, WE ARE in no end loop with AMD given link since day one. Are you telling me to disable Secure boot before the clean install? It does not make any differences, simply because WU installs it and it is not shown anywhere. Impossible to go further. Result is the screenshot above.

Enabling CSM mode in BIOS for both Legacy and UEFI. Then roll back to the MS driver in Device manager. After, ran the amd cleanup utlity.exe to remove it in safe mode. Trying to reinstall Adrenaline 19, but same message << components are already installed>>.

Redo the safe mode deletion and got this from WU: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. - Display - 1/23/2019 12:00:00 AM - 26.20.11000.12002.Same issue after reboot, not shown again. Device Manager is showing AMD Radeon RX Vega 10 Graphics.

The only thing to try is to redo the clean install with the BIOS default parameters = CSM mode enabled/Secure Boot disabled.

    Mission Impossible

Same ball game, no AMD folder after restart. We also get the brightness level at 50% after updating. Brightness cursor is at 50% and dead before enabling Internet, but brightness level is ok. Installing Radeon 19.1.1 is impossible, only 2 options. See screenshot. Getting AMD problem report wizard only in start.

The AMD folder (19.1.1) contains executable files for installation only.
Edit: In Linux our graphic card is not Vega 10. In Mint its a Vega 4x, in Ubuntu's its a Vega 8, in Tumbleweed...

WU: clean install 16299.1004 To 1803 To 1809 / No AMD Folder

Clean install 16299.1004 and did not get the AMD folder. Upgrade via WU to 18.03 and back to back to 18.09. Same after 1803. Before upgrading to 18.09, installed the latest AMD driver kit and the AMD UI simply because the drivers list is reset upon upgrade.

The UI version is 17.12 and it's working properly. There were 19 drivers after the clean install of 17.09, the first time we have that much. See 1709 screenshots. The good news is that we were not getting the Dolby app also, but it was there and working after 17.09.

Dual boot with Mint, Grub was ok on each attempt. No issues in the upgrade process either for WU nor with the settings app. We were able to fix bugs in Linux one after the other for a period of 7 weeks. Not the RadeonSetings.exe one.

Since day one, we have to tweak the Kernel to boot ISO's, but since Feb. 1st, we also have to tweak Secure Boot with MOK Manager to compile unsigned Kernels:

    Code:
    mokutil --disable-validation
Bugs fix SecureBoot/Sound Card/WIFI Network/Bluetooth/ as seen in the Mint installer:

    Code:
    uname -r
    4.15.0-20-generic
    mint@mint~$ mokutil --sb-state
    SecureBoot enabled
SecureBoot validation is disabled in shim
lspci -knn | grep Net -A3; rfkill list
04:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8822BE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WiFi adapter [10ec:b822]
     Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:b024]
     Kernel driver in use: r8822be
     Kernel modules: r8822be
    0: phy0: Wireless LAN
     Soft blocked: no
     Hard blocked: no
This tweak fixes the absence of sound card (headphone only), Bluetooth issue with suspend mode, no WIFI switch or network up to Kernel 4.19 and allows custom Kernel to boot: invalid signature, you must load the Kernel first ends in a cold shutdown. The machine becomes unusable with SB enabled.

We are not discouraged by any means, a new machine is always the occasion to learn new stuff, to enter new areas, to discover unknown sub-systems. Secure boot opacity is perfect the way it is. We have no intention to keep it disabled. MOK is the best compromise, we see it as a gain over the machine.

    Regards,

    20H1 & Version 19.2.3

So far, only this version works after a clean install. All others (optional) executable files are dying rapidly when launched.
When we click clean install instead of install in the upgrade process, we’ve lost the app completely after restart: 19.2.3 to 19.3.1.

There is no issue when we click install on all other subsequent versions.

Upgrading to 20H1 did not work as expected. After the upgrade, the Radeon app was reset to the previous version or the original clean install version 19.2.3 = full reset.
Now, the app refuses to upgrade (express or custom) and the process dies a few second after.
App functionality are not affected and happy that 19.2.3 still working, it is the first version that worked here.
