    Portable laptop charger

    Hello,

I have a 15.6" Acer laptop, fully charged, lasts' around 2hrs

I'm going on holiday and would like to use the laptop round the pool, and within the hotel, once the charge on the laptop has died, is there a portable device I can buy that will allow me to use laptop (charge / replace orignal battery) outside the room, rather than having to keep charging it up in the room?

You can buy a 'powerbank' / 'powerpack', an external battery that powers your computer and/or recharges your computer's own battery.

Because I have a Dell, I bought a Dell Power Companion review Charge your laptop on the go - PCWorld This can just sit routinely on the end of my normal power charger lead whilst its own lead is what connects to the computer. If I remove AC power, the computer doesn't see any difference because the Power companion both runs the computer and charges its battery.
[This only fits the input connection for some Dell computers and probably no Acers. I mention it purely to serve as an example while you are searching.]

Some power banks can only recharge your battery [but not power the computer]. If you search on Amazon or similar, make sure you check whether or not it can both
    - power the computer, and
    - charge your battery
while your computer is still being used [rather than only being able to charge the battery when the computer is turned off]. It might be difficult to tell the difference between them and you might have to check in your computer's user manual aswell.

If your computer has a removeable battery then it might be simpler to buy a spare battery or two.
    - You would swap batteries as the first became exhausted just by putting the computer into hibernation then changing the batteries around then waking the computer up again.
    - Whilst this might sound awkward it would only interrupt you for a minute or so each time.

You must check with your airline & airport if you are allowed to take spare batteries / powerbanks onto the plane in cabin baggage / in hold baggage / not at all.

    Best of luck,
    Denis
