Yesterday I posted in the Installation and Upgrade board a
problem I came across with trying to install Windows Home to a M.2 SSD which I
have now solved by enabling the CSM "Boot from PCI-E Expansion
Drives" from Legacy to UEFI First on the BIOS which was not enabled.

Windows is installed on the M.2 SSD which is set on the BIOS
as Boot Option 1 and the HDD is set as Boot Option 2.

Now normally in Disk Management the C: drive is shown as Disk 0 and other drive as Disk 1 etc.

My question is if someone can clarify if C: shown as Disk 1
rather than Disk 0 is normal or have I done something wrong?

Hi, this is mine- 2 disks in a laptop.

The only difficulty I encountered- which was a little awkward- was when upgrading 1607 to 1709. Around that time a MS rep told me MS had extended disk numbering from 1-9 to 0 to 9 - if indeed that was a correct story.

Anyway, the problem I found then was that I could not upgrade successfully. If I clean installed 1709, my Disk 1 became Disk 0.

Recently I upgraded 1709 to 1809 with disk numbers as shown- and no issues about disk numbering.
Seems to suggest a quirk or oddity which has been resolved.

Thanks for your reply. So, hopefully nothing to worry about, as this new pc is for my daughter who lives 50 mile away from me and I would only be able to help her with pc issues via TeamViewer.

    Not if everything's running ok..

Hopefully you've made sure she's using disk imaging routinely... e.g. Macrium Reflect (free)...

I quote Tony Blair (but only in jest): 'Education, education, education'.

Warn her you can't fix things if her PC won't boot over the phone- and point out that with disk imaging, even if her disk fails 2 weeks before finals, she can still have her PC up and running with a new disk, Macrium boot disk and disk images herself.

Would she want mad panic shortly before a key assignment has to be completed? Lost work?.... I'm sre you can think of some scary scenario that might just work if logic doesn't... I've seen people in tears having lost things.

I will tell her she won't be taking the pc unless she promises to create an image at least once a month and she let me check the pc via TeamViewer once a month. Just hoping.
