    Audio cracking on speakers and in headphones


    ok so the issue goes like this: the audio coming from my laptop will suddenly start cracking and does not stop if I unplug my headphones. I don't remember when it started because it was rare at first but now it is so frequent that it gets extremely annoying and I can barely stand it anymore. When this happens the only solution I have been able to do to temporarily fix this is by turning windows sonic (spatial sound) on and then off again. I have tried reinstalling audio drivers and installing other drivers to no avail. is my laptop dying?

    I had crackling audio too, and it was because of the Realtek Audio Drivers. Instead, have windows use generic windows audio drivers. The crackling should disappear. https://appuals.com/how-to-disable-w...altek-drivers/

    I have installed that so now all I have to do is wait and see if the problem persists.
    (one thing I noticed right away is that windows now knows when I plug headphones in)

    This is a frequent complaint. No "one fix" except Wi-Fi is a known cause.

    The generic, basic function, Windows installed High Definition Audio drivers are not normally a "fix". Also if the laptop, like many, came with an audio software enhancement such as Dolby, Creative/SoundBlaster, etc they will not work with the High Definition Audio drivers.

    Try a scan with Resplendence's Latencymon (free). Many people suffering with crackling have a driver problem - not necessarily an audio driver- whose latency causes stuttering.

    This may happen with certain (older?) PCs when people find with (say) build 1709 all is fine, but upgrading to 1803 (say) results in crackle or stutter.

    I have two completely different laptops with Realtek installed- no stutter. And one of them has Dolby.. albeit I want to eliminate Dolby from that as there's no equaliser that actually works (the behaviour of the sliders in the graphic equaliser in the Dolby software just makes no sense and has been so commented by others). The Realtek equaliser is not available - perhaps because the Dolby software is present.

    I'm aware that uninstalling the drivers isn't the best fix however it seems to have solved the issue and I don't think I'll be needing the dolby enhancements anyway.
    I find that the trade-off of not having dolby enhancements to be better than having this issue and windows not recognizing when something is plugged in
