    Well, running applications on the background probably had nothing to do with your problem. I guess some driver was updated and fixed your issue. The "Device Error" after you eject (but not remove) the device sounds reasonable. Windows can no longer access the device because you ejected it (but did not remove yet), hence the error.

    Absolutely 100% correct my friend. I just went the long way to find out.

    It's my fault though, because I could've been more elaborate in how I was explaining the problem.
