No speakers or headphones are plugged in

It's my second time having this no audio problem ever since I updated to windows 10. I have never experienced this problem before a certain windows 10 update (I don't remember which). If I recall correctly, I fixed it the first time by updating the sound driver and then rolling it back to the version i originally had. I have the AMD high definition audio device driver.

The things I've already tried to no avail are:

    • deleting the driver and restarting
    • updating the driver (still AMD, but more recent version from drivereasy) and restarting
    • updating the driver, restarting, then rolling back the driver then restarting
    • manually choosing "High Definition Audio Device" for updating the driver, then restarting
    • Scanning for hardware changes in device manager
    • Disabling services to check if anything is affecting my audio in clean boot
    • cmd sfc /scannow fix
    • cmd net localgroup fix
    • downloading realtek drivers (device manager won't install it, only a "You already have the best drivers for your device" pop-up)
    • Clean boot troubleshooting
    • DxDiag.exe with note "No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer."

The playback tab of the sound window from the taskbar icon only shows 1 - Digital Display Audio, AMD High Definition Audio Device, Not Plugged In. I only have "AMD High Definition Audio Device" and "CyberLink WebCam Virtual Driver" under my sound, video, and game controllers. I also have an HP 15 notebook if that helps.

I don't know if there is anything else to do. Any help is deeply appreciated. ):

    Hi.

What does Device Manager have to say?
If OK, have you right clicked on the Volume Control in your System Tray and played with the settings?

AMD High Definition Audio is for HDMI audio only (in every case I've seen).
Look at the Device Manager, Sound, Video and Game Controller section. Your Realtek (or whatever) may be listed with an error. If this is the case, post the error code. If its shown as working OK, recycle the Realtek (or whatever you have) by uninstalling it in the Device Manager but DO NOT uninstall the driver. Then restart the PC and Windows should detect and reinstall the sound.

Audio or no audio, the only sound driver i had under the Sound, Video and Game Controller section is the AMD high definition audio. I tried installing realtek drivers but the system only tells me that my device "already has the best drivers".

There is not much to play with, I only see options to change sounds for barely significant program events. I don't understand what you mean by "What does Device Manager have to say?"

Hello! I have seen cases where non-Realtek audio cards are wrongly detected as Realtek and even accept Realtek drivers but of course produce no sound. Go to Programs and Features and uninstall anything audio related (such as Realtek HD Audio). Then restart your computer. Then use a utility such as Speccy or Aida64 to see exactly what sound card you have. If unsure see the motherboard model. Go to the motherboard manufacturer's site (for example Asrock) and download the sound driver. If there is no driver for Windows 10, try 8 or 7. The same driver should install in Windows 10 and your audio card will work. Then you may have to disable any driver updates to prevent Windows replacing your working driver, or just reinstall it when needed.
