Can't print in colour to any printer from any app

Weird issue, I cannot print in colour at all any more.
I have tried different printers and printing from different apps, all with the same result, i.e. colour prints in grayscale.
I have looked at 'manage your device', 'printer properties' and 'printing preferences' and cannot see what the problem is.
    It must be something obvious!
Any help appreciated. (I'm on HP Instant Ink, and every time I test, it goes against my monthly allowance!)

Is this box checked or unchecked in your preferences?

Thanks. Where is that option? I can't immediately see it.

If you have a .pdf document, open it and there is a printer icon in the lower left portion of the document - click it and that will open the screen you're looking for:

    I'm just having some fun.

If this is what you see when click the print icon in Adobe Reader:

Can't print in colour to any printer from any app-blank.jpg

…….then you'll be lucky to print anything at all!

I'm just waiting for your edit - LoL!

    EDIT:

O.K. - I saw your edit and I am unfamiliar with that interface.

It would really help if you had the PDF reader to open the interface I posted earlier. That way we could see if the app is taking exclusive control over your printer settings.

Of course you could always see if Windows is taking exclusive control of your printer as well:

The one I attached is the only interface I see when clicking on the printer icon in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. There is no Printer icon in the bottom left, it is on the main menu bar at the top.

Do you know if Windows is managing your printer or the software that accompanied your printer?

You need to determine if Windows is overriding your printers settings.

Another easy way to tell, is to place a colored document on the printer and copy/scan (push the actual button on the printer) it to see if it punches out an exact copied colored document or not.

If it is in gray scale, it is most likely a local setting in the printers properties.

Thanks for all your help. It's now working OK. All I did was re-download the drivers from the HP site.
Who knows what the issue was!
