    ?Mount ext drive without unpluging/pluging?

Win 10 v1803. I have a new external USB 3 hard drive. It is USB powered and has no power switch. I do not want the drive available except when doing a backup so I use the Safely Remove Device facility. However, I can find no way to mount the disk again other than unplugging and plugging in the USB connection.

Is there some other way to get the drive mounted again?

Try to right click disable or re-enable that external drive rather in "Device Manager" under "Disk Drives" than rather mount or un-mount as there is no re-mount option .

SIW2: I don't see where HotSwap can get the drive mounted again.

I use it all the time. AHCI mode for hot swapping sata.

    Rt click the Hotswap! icon:

    ?Mount ext drive without unpluging/pluging?-rt-click-no-hotswap-devices.jpg

Left click the icon and scan for hardware changes:

    ?Mount ext drive without unpluging/pluging?-hotswap-.jpg

In a few seconds, you will see the driver installing.

Rt click again - now you see it - this is a usb stick.

then your chipset / raid drivers need manufacturer's update , then try to delete all your usb controllers in device manager and let them install again
