Can Anyone Help With Keyboard Issue?

I think this maybe a common issue, but haven't yet found a fix:-(

I've just bought a new USB keyboard: Corsair K70 LUX (not RGB)

On cold startup of the PC (not hot reset), the keyboard no longer works (although still receives USB power as red LEDs on).

Works fine if I haul out the PC and switch USB ports at the rear.

Anyone know if there's a fix for this?

    Hi Dougal.

Sounds like a driver issue with Fast Startup

What you call a cold startup actually uses Windows Fast Startup. Explained here.

Turn On or Off Fast Startup in Windows 10

So you are not getting a new copy of Windows. On the other hand a restart actually gives you a new copy of Windows.

For a quick test please issue this command at a Command Prompt(admin) or Powershell(Admin)

    powercfg -h off

This disables hibernation and Windows Fast Startup. Try a power on.

To reverse command, issue the command again only change the word "off" to "on".

Next I would look in device manager under keyboards. On the view menu show hidden devices. Delete all keyboards not in use. I don't know for sure but I assume your keyboard has specialized drivers, please ensure these are installed.

If you have an SSD you just may want to disable Windows Fast Startup.

    This is still happening:-(
Fast Boot turned off in BIOS and Windows (powercfg -h off)

If I reboot or shut down the PC WITHOUT turning off mains supply, then all is well and keyboard starts just fine.

Whenever the PC is shut down and mains power removed, then keyboard doesn't work on startup. Yet, the keyboards LEDs come on, and BIOS does not report "no keyboard".

Although this is a new keyboard, it was listed as 'manufacturer reburshished'. It came properly packaged, but in a plain cardboard box and without any drivers.

Its not the RGB version, just red LED. Ive tried installing the only drivers Corsair supply online, although I believe they're for the RGB version. That didn't help.

If I turn off the mains to my PC, I have to unplug the USB and re-pluggin the keyboard before the keystrokes register:-(

    Any more ideas?

Well it appears you are not alone when I search this issue.

Please look at post 14 and 21.

Fast boot in Bios is different than Windows Fast startup.

Post #21 mentions a switch, do you have switch.

An issue I've seen a number of times is that the BIOS has support for USB 2.0 ports/keyboards [black center] but the USB 3.0 ports [blue center] need drivers loaded during the loading of Windows. The only true solution on those computers was to assure the USB Keyboard was plugged into a USB 2 port.

WOW! Thanks for all the help. Surely this means I'll have issues with just about ANY USB keyboard?

I doubt it. Something in that keyboard or their software is at fault here.

If USB keyboards didn't work MS would step in and fix.

ok thanks. I've raised a ticket with Corsair support. If past experience is anything to go by, I'll not hold my breath:-(
