    Hello artic,

I hope this below may help to disable write protection for your USB.

If none of that helps it may be due to USB itself going bad. Inability to write to, delete files or format is one of first and most common indication. It's actually a safe mode built into most USB drives and SD cards so you don't loose files in case something goes wrong, a safe mode if you will.

This was taken with write protected USB **Not** in Drive. So do I put the USB stick in drive or leave it out to do this?

It appears that Disk 2 is the USB drive.

You would enter select disk 2 at step 4 in Option 3, and press Enter.

Next, you would type attributes disk clear readonly at step 7, and press Enter.

Afterwards, test to see if you still get the disk write protected message.

Pardon me, Brink, but if I may?

artic, in order for an Operating System to work on a memory stick, SD card, USB Thumb/Flash drive or other External drive it has to be plugged into the computer first.

Ok I did it and it still says Write Protected so I guest I will just have to throw the thumb drive away. I want to thank everyone who helped as I learned a great deal through this. Happy New Year to all.
