Is it 100% certain my hard drive is failing?

Windows freezes when it boots. It has gotten worse the past few times. Shorter and shorter times before it freezes. It freezes at the Desktop every time after automatic login.

Ran chkdsk c:/r and receiving the following message repeatedly.

The disk does not have enough space to replace bad clusters detected in file <#> of name <name>.

I Googled the message it and just about every page says my hard drive is failing. It is an SSD. Two years old. If I try a Windows recovery and restore my computer to original state is there a risk the hard drive will fail faster?

    1) There are multiple methods to check the drive.

    2) The most important part is probably saving the files.

    3) Find a flash drive that you can format ( > or = 4 GB)

    4) On a working computer create a bootable Kyhi rescue flash drive:
Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk - Windows 10 Forums

    5) On the problematic computer temporarily modify the BIOS boot order so that the external USB HD is on top

    6) It may take 5 - 10 minutes for the iso to fully load

    7) Copy and paste any important files to another drive or to the cloud

    8) The Kyhi boot rescue flash drive comes with preinstalled software

    9) Make a backup image using Macrium and save the image to another drive

    10) Sometimes it is not possible to make a backup image due to problems on the drive and if you experience error messages and codes then post them into the thread

    11) These are some software to use to test the drive:

HD Tune (free or trial edition)
    https://www.hdtune.com/
    a) Health (SMART)
    b) Benchmark
    c) Full error scan

HD Sentinel (free or trial edition)
Hard Disk Sentinel - HDD health and temperature monitoring
    Overview
    Temperature
    SMART

An alternative to using Kyhi boot rescue to test the drive is to use a working computer to download Crystal Disk and Macrorit to flash drives and then booting to the flash drives on the problematic computer.

Macrorit is similar to the HD Tune full error scan or surface scan.
Crystal Disk is similar to HD Tune Health (SMART) or HD Sentinel SMART.
CrystalDiskInfo Portable (disk health monitoring) | PortableApps.com
Download Macrorit Disk Scanner Portable 4.3.0

If the drive fails the above tests then you know that the next step is replacement.
If the drive passes the above tests then there may be steps to rerun and complete the chkdsk scan.

I do not know if this is a clue to what is going on but the estimate time it is going to take according to chkdsk to finish is up to 15 hours. That time keeps increasing.

What a bizarre turn of events.

I ran Safe Mode and Windows or HP (the HP logo was on the screen) performed some repair function which was totally unexpected. My computer is seemingly back to 100%. This issue has literally been going on for 2 months. What a relief.

I went from a possible failing hard drive to a computer functioning at 100%. Windows doesn't get the credit it deserves.

To think this all started when I installed a new wireless keyboard. As fickle as Windows is it does a good job of repairing itself.

For the CHKDSK log I was not able to find it using any of the steps in that link. I did run another CHKDSK. Below are the results.

    chkdsk.txt - Google Drive

I will download the HP DIagnostics Tool and run those features.

There is a log collector that is used in another forum that is used to troubleshoot the computer logs.
Run the BETA log collector and post a zip into this thread:
BSOD - Posting Instructions - Windows 10 Forums
    https://www.tenforums.com/attachment...-v2-beta16.zip
    (extract all > open)

Open the HP website > support > software and drivers HP Software and Driver Downloads for HP Printers, Laptops, Desktops and More | HP® Customer Support > enter the product or serial number or model > select the operating system view drivers > post a URL or hyperlink into this thread.
