Windows 10 how to Disable Generic external touchpad tap-to-click?

I have a HP Pavilion Power laptop 15-cb0xx and its been going on for a while, but kinda getting a bit worse, that my touchpad can act very erratic at times with the mouse cursor just jumping about when i'm trying to do some work. But the weird thing is, it only seams to happen when i'm in the one place..

It's a bit weird and it's very annoying.. can't find anything that might be creating such a problem..
    anyway..

I have a generic external touchpad which works fine.. BUT, the main problem is that it IS generic. it has a range of gestures but the problem is tap-to-click is a windows default. Since it's generic and therefore has no special drivers or software, i cannot turn off tap-to-click as the default HID mouse driver is just so basic. I've been looking to see if there is something in the registey or looking for any software that might replace the driver with a better one but i can't fine one. Does anyone have any idea or if there is anything that can be done? or any routes worth checking? It doesn't seem like something that a custom driver couldn't deal with..

To disable the Double Tap to Enable or Disable TouchPad feature, open the Touchpad tab in Mouse Properties.
Click Start , and then type mouse in the search field.
    Click Change your mouse settings.
    Click Additional mouse options.

NOTE: Some HP Notebooks have an HP Control Zone tab. If your Notebook has this tab, open it and click HP Control Zone Disable.

Thanks but that only works for the internal touchpad which has it's own custom drivers, in my case Elan. It is also not so much the double tap, which it might be called but i'm not use to that name for it, but the normal tap-to-click.

Sorry if I did not make that clear in my original post.

Search and open Device Manager. Go to the Mice and pointing devices and expand it. Select your touchpad and disable the device. It won't bother you again. You could also disable it in BIOS (if there is such selection) or by key combination on your keyboard (if there is one that disables the touchpad). Of course this implies you will be using an external mouse or touchpad to do that.

I'm thinking I really wrote the intro question but very badly.... the problem IS the external touchpad is a generic, and thus uses the generic windows 10 HID mouse drivers, which work for touchpads, but the tap-to-click feature/gesture (when you tap the touchpad, not just the buttons) is stuck being on because, as a generic, there are no options to be able to turn it off.. I'm wondering if there is a way to turn it off or some custom generic drivers or anything.. the problem with the internal touchpad playing up in on location of the world only, is weird but something I wasn't asking about...

    thanks anyway

What is the manufacturer and model of that third party touchpad? It should have settings available to tweak it. You do need to change your title to state that it is a external touchpad issue, not the Synaptics built in one. Unfortunately, unless it is a name brand product, you are limited to what you can do to tweak the device.

my internal is an Elan but fair enough ^_^

and yeah, it's a cheap one, it's branded, but a cheap brand.. like a lot of things. HI8 Mini-wireless touchpad & keyboard.. so basically no name, cheap as hell brand. But apart from the driver tapping issue, it's a fairly solid bit of tec.

I tried to trace the inputs to see about doing a custom driver/hack but my skills in that field are limited and the driver seems to intercept the signal first, so it's claims it's just a mouse button press. I would need to get a intercept earlier to see anything or a way to just make the driver from scratch... which is slightly out of my field..

If it is external (attached with USB cable), then why don't you just disconnect it when not needed? Or make sure you place it away from the keyboard so you won't accidentally tap on it while typing on Word.

it's wireless via USB but that's not really a problem.. When it's being used, tap-to-click is always such an annoying thing that if you do a lot of detailed movements I keeps thinking you are clicking then you are in fact just moving.

See the model and part Number and Google for drivers. It could have a utility to control sensitivity.
