Missing Adjust Screen Brightness slider in Power Options

My HP laptop performed a Windows Update today. As a result, I've lost my "Adjust Screen Brightness" slider in Power Options. I can still find it in Settings - Display.

I have Win 10. I've found a YouTube video (specifically for Win 7) that suggests going to Device Manager - Monitors - Properties - Uninstall Device, but I've also read that doing so will merely result in the same driver being reinstalled.

What should I do to get the "Adjust Screen Brightness" slider back in Power Options?

Thanks so much for your help.

Hi, this topic has been discussed a number of times- please feel free to search the forum for relevant threads.

Please note the comment under Option 5 here:

    - it's gone after the stated build number.

It's always helpful to state your Windows build to put things into context as so many different builds are in use simultaneously.

In addition, there are 3rd party tools that allow you to adjust volume and brightness either using a key and scroll wheel or when hovering over the taskbar for example.

You may also have dedicated Fn keys on your laptop.

Hi Dalchina, thanks very much. I will read the links, and yes, you're right - I should get accustomed to using the Fn keys to adjust brightness. Thanks again.

This symptom usually implies you need an upgrade at Graphics driver. Make sure you have Intel (or whatever) under Display Adapters in Device Manager. If you see Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, then this explains the issue. Update your drivers.

This is how 1809 is. Settings are moving from the Control Panel.

There are plenty of other ways of adjusting brightness- could you clarify which isn't working for you?

Yes, to clarify, I've lost my "Adjust Screen Brightness" slider in Power Options. I can still find it in Settings - Display. In addition, I can adjust brightness with the Function keys.

Thanks. I guess I will have to use Settings or the Function keys to adjust brightness from now on.
