Hi - did the simple volume command and followed the selections in each window. Did not change anything that was selected. Rebooted. No deal yet. No go. Cannot copy files onto it. Don't know what I did wrong. Humph!

Can you see the drive's partition in File Manager? It needs a letter assigned to it in order to appear in File Manager. If it doesn't have one yet, right-click on the partition in Disk Management and select 'Change drive letter and paths...'.

You created a partition, but has it been formatted yet? Once it has a drive letter you can format it in File Manager. Format it as ntfs and accept all the defaults.

It assigned the letter D - I followed the defaults and it was formatted. I'll go back and look again. Thanks.

OK -went back for another look. It shows up. The properties states 148 gb free. So it's all back, yes? Also, made a shortcut on desktop so I can easily find it - that properties shows only 400 bytes. Only... hmmm. Also, can I rename it to just plain D and since it's on the desktop , can I change the icon to something more fun?

I find Win10 to be a very busy OS. Do you like it? I easily adapted to seven from xp - I am finding 10 to be a bit more of a struggle. I also installed something (start10) that gave the look of seven back for the start menu. Don't know why they call it start10 since it's seven they're starting. Ah well. Look forward to hearing back from you and thanks for your enormous help.

Yes, sounds like it's good to go...

That's the properties of the shortcut, not the drive it's pointing too. Yes, you can rename the shortcut, just right-click on it and select Rename. If you select Properties, on the Shortcut tab there's a Change icon button.

I never liked the way 7 opened Windows Explorer to 'Libraries' - never liked them, seemed designed confuse. In 10 I have File Explorer set to open a This PC. I avoided 8 at all costs, nothing but tiles seemed too weird a concept. Took about two weeks to feel thoroughly at home in 10 after upgrading from 7 in July 2015. I'm still quite fond of Windows '95 though

Yes, I like Windows 10. I make no attempt to use anything like Start10 or Classic/Open Shell. Preferring to make the most of the the native Start menu and adapt it to my needs, pinning and rearranging my own selection of tiles.
