Can I clone an SATA SSD boot drive onto an NVME PCIE drive?
I'm planning on building a new PC to replace my current one. My current boot drive is a Samsung 850 Pro SSD connected to an SATA port. My new configuration will have a Samsung 870 EVO PCIe SSD connected to an M.2 NVME slot on the motherboard. My plan was to restore a Macrium Reflect image from the 850 SSD onto the 870 drive - because I don't want to have to reinstall all my software.
I've read that this may not work because the device drivers are different between SATA and NVME ports, and therefore the restored drive might not work because Win10 won't be able to see it. But is this true? and if it is, is there an easy way to fix it?
So far Win10 has been quite good about identifying different devices and finding the correct drivers to load. But will it be able to handle my situation at first boot?
