Windows 10 No Longer Detects Headphones after a Sound Update?

First, NVIDIA is for HDMI audio, not for PC audio for use with a microphone. As noted you need the correct sound hardware drivers and if its Realtek install that, either direct from Realtek (what I'm using on an ASUS ROG motherboard) or the drivers on the ASUS site for your motherboard.

Go to the Sounds Panel, Recording Section. Set Stereo Mix as the default recording device. With Stereo Mix any active input, such as a mic, is able to be heard and used. You will need Realtek for Stereo Mix, the "High Definition Audio" driver does not have Stereo Mix as it is a generic, basic function sound driver. In most cases where the audio chip has device sensing you also need the hardware (e.g. Realtek) driver as the generic HD Audio does not have this.

I didn't see exactly what mic you are using. It helps to know exactly what you are using.

Hi @fireberd, I finally did try the Stereo Mix method and it worked but unfortunately only for my headphones. Basically, now it went the opposite way. My speakers do not work now. I've taken a screenshot to show you the current Realtek settings.

For testing, plug the headset into the rear GREEN speaker jack and see if you hear anything.

What you show is correct.

Well, as it turns out, the issue has shifted to the rear panel. With the Realtek driver installed, I plugged in the headset instead my speakers into the rear green jack; Windows did recognize the new device, however, it does not carry through the actual sound. On the contrary, my headset works in the front panel now. I don't get it.

Before that sound troubleshooting, both front and rear green jack worked flawlessly. Now, I'm forced to choose whether I want to speakers or the headset in action alone. @fireberd do you have any other ideas? And by the way, thank you a billion for your assistance!

Uninstall Realtek in the Device Manager, but DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Then restart the PC and Realtek will be reinstalled when Windows starts. This resets things and may help.

Just to verify for sure, you mean the following procedure, right?
