    Driver failed

I keep getting notice that "intel rapid storage drives f6" needs to be installed but every time I try it fails. Do I need this driver, it says recommended but it keeps failing! This is a new dell pc

    Hi vett

Please complete your system spec, which dell model do you have.

Being new some Dell warranty is likely still available.

Which software is generating said message, a Dell product or an Intel product.

Are you getting the update from Dell?

Is it the 64 Bit version you are downloading.

When it fails is any log information being captured? There is likely an Intel folder on the root of C: which should have logs.

The F6 item is a standalone installer that permits storage drivers to be loaded during Windows installation. You probably just need to update your Intel chipset drivers, or perhaps the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (Intel RST) drivers. You can download the Dell Support Assistant and it can scan and tell you what you need. Visit the Dell Drivers and Downloads page, let it detect your PC, and it will guide you the rest of the way from there. I have two older Dell PCs (2013 and 2014 vintage) and that stuff works like a champ for me for both machines (Dell Venue Pro 11 7130 and XPS 2720).

It says when the install starts it will identify all prerequisites.

Which prerequisites did it identify and did you install them (confirming the version installed)

What version do you have installed?

What does Dell have to say about this?

Ed suggested installing chipset and IRST driver. Can you check version you have installed and see if they also need updating.

The "F6" drivers are only needed when installing Windows. Once Windows is installed then you can just install the normal RST drivers.

Can you post a screenshot of the exact driver you're trying to install?

Thanks @PolarNettles: that's what I had hoped the OP would understand. After Windows is running, you really don't need the F6 item anymore. Always wondered why Dell sometimes prescribes it anyway.
    Best wishes,
