WD My Book World Edition (White)

After building a PC with win 10, i've not had my WD my book world edition used for a good while, decided to plug it in and install the drivers etc.

Plugged it into a switch and it's not being recognised at all, even downloaded the WD cd with the drivers and the detection tool doesn't see it either.

    Hi bjproc

Are your status LED's for the port showing a proper connection.

Have you tried different cable / port?

Can you plug directly into router?

Assume when you power on you hear drive spinning up.

    hi Ken,

the LED light is fully lit up.

I've just ordered a male/male usb cable so it's connected by it (as well the the ethernet cable) just to see if it recognises it.

hopefully get it in a few days and i'll report back to see whether is does anything to help it

You do not need to install any extra software or drivers to connect to that drive. If it is not work, it is possible that it is dead.

    Excellent news.

Long shot. Might power off switch and router, plug back into switch and power everything up.

Switch might just be going bad.

    Hi Ken,

Got my male usb cable today, so i moved the NAS to it's original place, turned off the power to my switch & router, connected it all up and that's it now showing in my computer.

Thanks for your help with this
