    Some further ideas:

    a. A far far safer way would be to stick a piece of plastic over it while seeking a better solution.

    b. Have you looked for a palm check setting?
That is intended precisely to address people accidentally touching the touchpad.
(I never see this issue, so imagine it's to do with your hand position when typing, and whether you use both hands or one- I use both).

This is from my Lenovo - your setting and GUI may well be different:

    c. Another option woud be to uninstall the driver, selecting the option to remove the driver.
Use the tutorial (Tutorial section) to disable driver updates, or a 3rd party tool like WUMgr which does the same but with one click.

    d. Adjust sensitivity:

    e. Use Autoruns (free from MS):
Search for and disable (check box) everything related to your touchpad driver e.g. Synaptics, Elan or whatever it be.

    f. Try Touchpad blocker (free)
    Download Touchpad Blocker 3.0.0.71

After working on this for 17 hours yesterday, deleting and disabling everything, even things in the registry file, at 2am this morning I cut the back off an old steno book that I had laying around. I made two thicknesses because one was not enough even with the touchpad set at the least sensitive, taped them together and then taped them over the touchpad. And so far today, I haven't wanted to shoot my laptop. But the day is young. LOL. This was a minor problem that I thought would be an easy fix. Ha! The next one is why Windows won't allow me to set up my printer/scanner on my network since the 1903 update.

I checked out the Touchpad Blocker but it seems that it only blocks for a short period of time and at the same time blocks entries from any external mouse or mice. I never want the touchpad to work. I only want to use my Marbleball Mouse.

In all my looking, I never found a Palm Check Setting. I'll look some more for that. Thanks for the suggestion.

I never say any screens like the ones you included. The ones I saw only had tabs for General, Ports, Pointers, and Hardware were I could choose from the touchpad or my Marble Mouse.

I do type with both hands and never look at the keyboard. I look at documents or the screen and don't have the time to look for the cursor every time I hit a key. I learned to type on an old office Remington typewriter. Back then, home computers were a Sci-fi addict's (that would be me) dream. Now they can be more of a nightmare.

I'm going to check further into WUMgr but at first glance on the download page it looked like it had not been updated in a number of years. So I doubt that it would be able to beat Version 1903 into submission. Plus I don't want to stop Windows Updates. I just want to disable the touchpad. It took three full days of downloading to get version 1903 downloaded during which time I had no access to the internet. I'm guessing that 1903 was hogging all the bandwidth. On a good day, I have about 30kps, yes, 30kps, for downloads. I've seen it as low as 960bps. I think the old 800 baud dial up connections were faster.

Well, enough of this. I still have to work on the printer/scanner problem.

You wouldn't happen to know how to delete my printer from my wireless internet would you? Windows tells me that the printer is connected to my wireless network, then in Devices and Printers where my printer does not show up, but when I try to add it, Windows says it's in the network but it can't find the printer. That makes no sense to me. But I figure if I can completely delete it out of my network then I can install it from scratch. I can't do it in the router (modem?) because of where I'm located, a router does not find a signal. So I have to use my old iphone as a Personal Hotspot and it can find the signal. And that works pretty well most of the time.

Again thank you for all your help and suggestions.

There may be a BiOS setting to disable it. This is manfacturer and model dependent.

    Disable driver updates:
    For Pro up:
Enable or Disable Driver Updates in Windows Update in Windows 10

    - but it quotes a reg file too, I don't know if that would work in Home- you could ask if question not asked in comments following.

You can hide (block a specific update:
Hide or Show Windows Updates in Windows 10

People do use WUMGR and WUMT: Sledgehammer (uses WUMT) is the latest but that disables Windows updates.

Synaptics touchpad windows 10 wont disable
    post #7 works for me:

with BOTH HKLM and HKCR key values changed to 33h and a restart then the touchpad is disabled when the USB mouse is connected.

Unfortunately I see no GUI method to change that behaviour. (Older articles appear to refer to a Settings option that no longer exists).

This is what works for me in Windows 10 Home, Version 1809 with a Logitech mouse Model M310.
In Windows System>Control Panel> Hardware and Sound> Devices and Printers> mouse.
Put a checkmark in Disable internal.pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached.

And you can make whatever choices you want for the taskbar icon.

    Click Apply

I can now switch between touchpad and mouse by removing or inserting the USB device that came with the Logitech mouse.
Am I the only person in the world that this works for?!!!!!

Alas things have changed in 1903... therein lies... this used to be easy.

That option isn't present now- no Hardware and Sound, and no checkbox like that - at least not on my 2 laptops. Others' experience may differ.

Thanks for posting the solution. I use this: Installing the wrong driver for the touchpad and then disabling it.

I think that says a lot about Microsoft; eliminating something as useful as that when so many are trying to figure out how to overcome what Microsoft does.

Hallelujah! I found the best answer that is working for me. Now I can stop wasting my valuable time with this idiotic POS (piece of software?). Hmm, never realized that fit before.
Cut two pieces of cardboard off the back of a notebook, tape them together because one thickness is not thick enough, and tape them over the touchpad. I did that yesterday morning and have been typing up a storm since then trying to make up for lost time and have had no problems.
Too bad MS couldn't make a person's life easier instead of a POS, ( pile of stress). Ha, that works too. LOL.
Have a great day with my low-tech solution that works.
