Some further ideas:
a. A far far safer way would be to stick a piece of plastic over it while seeking a better solution.
b. Have you looked for a palm check setting?
That is intended precisely to address people accidentally touching the touchpad.
(I never see this issue, so imagine it's to do with your hand position when typing, and whether you use both hands or one- I use both).

c. Another option woud be to uninstall the driver, selecting the option to remove the driver.
Use the tutorial (Tutorial section) to disable driver updates, or a 3rd party tool like WUMgr which does the same but with one click.

e. Use Autoruns (free from MS):
Search for and disable (check box) everything related to your touchpad driver e.g. Synaptics, Elan or whatever it be.
