I'm having the same problem, except the disk drive isn't even showing up in device manager. I assumed it was a problem with the disk since Autoplay did nothing, but i've tried several with no luck.
I had my CD/DVD/BluRay writer not showing up the first time, but after rebooting it showed up the next time. I'm not sure what happened.
If you reboot and go into the BIOS (usually F8 or Del), can you see the drive in there? Maybe it just died at the same time coincidentally.
Yes. Definitely check the bios. If it shows up there, then it's alive, at least.
If it doesnt, try connecting it to a different SATA port on the mobo. If you can start your computer and hear the cd drive spin up, then it will likely be detected in bios.
I'm curious. Does it open and close in windows? Does the drive have a physical Open button on it?
Thanks guys, it isn't fixed yet though. I have checked the bios, cannot see it there. Therefore I'll definitely be trying to connect it to a different sata port! Don't think it spins up to be honest. I'll give it a try then come back! Ohh, and yes it does have a button on it, and it does open and closes!
