Even BIOS seems to say DVD drive has no media

    Hi

    Gigabyte B75M-D3H
    Windows 1803

    DVD drive has always worked.
I have 6 SATA ports, 6 HDDs and DVD drive, so have had to have at least 1 HDD on a USB/SATA adapter.
Installed a Marvell 2 port SATA expander slot, and so ran out of SATA power connectors and didn't reconnect the DVD drive.
Extra SATA ports work, but not properly, so I am trying to get the DVD drive working again, to use the supplied disk.

Have tried it on 2 (motherboard) SATA ports: BIOS identifies it correctly, accepts it as primary boot device, but won't boot from it.
Once running Windows it says No Media. Which is what my BIOS is also saying, seeing as it refuses to bot from it.

Presumably I can assume the drive has failed? Unfortunately no access to a different DVD drive to do a swap test.

EDIT: My CD burning software can open and close the drawer, but says no media.

    Hi macnab

Seems you have two separate threads but in my mind this is one problem. You said you do not have storage controllers listed in device manager (writing at USB speeds) and I would think your Intel devices should show under Storage Controllers.

I would shutdown your device holding the shift key down and clicking shutdown. This bypasses Windows Fast startup.

I would remove your expansion card and I think I would reset BIOS to defaults ( I assume you have not made changes to the way it was shipped) and boot. See if Storage Controllers are listed and if you DVD works.

Which Marvell card did you install.

    Cool.

Do you have a heading in Device Manager

IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers where your Intel device could be listed?

I'm going to reply in the Marvell card thread - makes more sense, especially for others in the future.
