hp printer stops working after updating to 1809

    Greetings
After updating to 1809 (to solve another problem) my printer stopped working.
It is HP officejet 4500 G510n-z wireless.
Original CD was for windows XP/7 so it doesn't work. Device setup downloaded from HP support fails even after neutralizing firewall, defender, Kaspersky and taking ownership on ProgramData\HP & Program Files (86)\HP
Installations say I don't have access to somewhere in ProgramData\HP
but it removes the printer completely from devices and printers
The printer doesn't print a test page
Does anyone know what to do (besides kicking the printer out)?
is it the right place to complain about this problem?
    thank you

did it happen to anyone else after updating to 1809?

Did you download the software package that supports Windows 10 from the HP Support site and install it with your Admin ID?

of course. That's the only relevant program I found in HP support.
and I ran it as an administrator (logged in to pc as administrator)
What is the meaning of: supported for usb only? my printer is wireless
Do I have to uninstall first?
delete HP folders in Progam Files (x86) (incl. common files) and ProgramsData?
Do I install with printer turned on?
what caused this trouble in update to 1809?
    thank you

HP forum suggest rolling back to 1803
but in 1803 I received a sudden demand to activate and activation servers were unreachable
there should be an 1809b or 1810 version solving both problems (activation and HP printer)
the question is do I roll back to 1803 and wait for future update or continue from 1809?
    thank you

That only supports USB refers to older versions of Windows, Windows XP and Vista.

The activation problem with the Microsoft activation server has been resolved. You could roll back to 1803 if you wanted to try that.

My Epson Workforce printer, scanner fax works fine under both versions but maybe I'm lucky!

Mine is a network printer also it has a small touch screen. I was able to add it to my network by entering network ID and password. Then running the printer install program using the WiFi setup.

I found a HP wireless printer guide on the internet. You may have it already but just in case.

I had time to think about this some more over lunch. I'm concerned that you might not have a successful install after rolling back to 1803. Yes I know your printer was working on 1803 but your printer software was already installed. What if the installer isn't compatible with 1803?

    Keep us posted.

    Hi,

Sorry to hear your problem & this is not an answer per say, but I had a very similar problem with a C309a HP printer.

Regardless of all my best efforts & no matter what I did, level 4 clean-up & re-install etc... it would only partially function.

I binned the HP printer & I now have an Epson (XP-960) as this was the best way to solve the problem.

    No further issues at all.

Epson even allow you to use third party cartridges... very nice of them!

    Hi zivshosh and others -

I also had a horrible experience with my HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 and the 1809 update before it was pulled.

    Some things...

    1) Do not attempt a System Restore or rolling back to 1803. It will have no effect.
    2) If you imaged your system before the 1809 update, you might wish to cleanly restore that image. Then defer feature updates for 60 days.

I also have other systems on 1809 with the same HP Software Suite running without a problem.
One suggestion is to post your concerns on HP's printer forum.

HP is terrible about checking and updating their drivers but it just might be a 1809 upgrade glitch.
One thing that you can try is to cleanly uninstall all HP printer drivers and then reinstall under 1809.

    FWIW
