    Eee 901 pop ups

Recently installed Windows 10 on a pristine eee 901. It is running very nicely with 2gb ram. Some tips would be helpful if anyone else has installed on this pc. Windows installed all drivers and all works absolutely fine. Only thing missing is a driver for ACPI which allows function keys to work. No pop ups about this- just a yellow triangle on device manager. Personally I’m not bothered about function keys but it’s to sell.

So installed the xp driver in xp3 compatibility and it works fine - function keys now working. But then get a pop up to install touchpad driver. To get rid of this I installed the ASUs Elan one again in xo3 compatibility and all works fine. However there is still a pop up I can’t fathom - something about Intel Igfx and to turn of hot key. Past experience has shown me that installing another driver fixes these pop ups but no idea which one and am wondering if it’s maybe not good having all these old xp drivers installed. Anyway if it’s a quick fix then ACPI and touchpad are fine.

Also WiFi keeps shutting down now and then. Thought I’d fixed that in services but it seems not. I think that has always been an issue with this model - ralink pcie card but no WiFi for an hour is not good.

Ah it's to do with graphics driver igfx (Intel graphics something). Now Windows 10 has installed the newest Intel GMA driver. The XP one is no good and doesn't work (and not sure I would want to install it anyway as it's so much older). So clearly this is not going to go away without the original Intel driver installed. There is nothing Intel or hot keys anywhere to turn off. As it's just an annoying pop up then presumably there is a way of stopping it?

The popup is something like Intel igfx is not running - turn off hot key.

Fed up with it lol. Just leaving it with no function keys - they're not really necessary anyway. Main thing is it works.

WiFi fixed. Replaced the WiFi card with one from an Eee PC 4gb. It is also an Azurewave but a different model. Works very well. Windows installed a Qualcom Atheros ARG5007EG driver for it. So the installed WiFi card in the 901 doesn’t do well in Windows 10 - although I believe it had a bit of a reputation for poor signal anyway.

So all up and running (without ASUs hot keys). No added drivers other than those Windows supplies. Hope this helps anyone who decides to put Windows 10 on this model! Still a few around. Although this does have an upgraded bigger ssd in.

Don’t know much about WiFi cards but apparently it is a Qualcomm Atheros one from the 701 4Gb. Which is why Windows chose that driver! The original one in the 901 was a Ralink and was frankly rubbish.
