1809 update created a partition?

After I used the upgrade tool to 1809 I noticed a filed called $WINRE_BACKUP_PARTITION.MARKER and I checked my partitions and I have a new one that just says

822MB NTFS OEM partition

Is there a way to remove it or do I need to keep it now?

It created a new recovery environment partition. If you never intend to use the recovery environment, you can delete the new partition and reclaim the space. Everything that can be accomplished from the recovery environment partition can also be done by booting from a Windows 10 installation USB flash drive (or DVD).

Thanks for the reply does the file $WINRE_BACKUP_PARTITION.MARKER thats sitting in the root of my c drive since updating have anything to do with it? Can I just delete it?

That means you'll be able to boot to Advanced Start up and use the W10 recovery tools without the aid of a usb recovery drive or bootable install usb.

So what about the original recovery partition at the beginning of the drive? The 1809 upgrade didn't take it over and instead created a bigger new one at the end of the drive? Seems a big (well, minor really) waste if 1809 can't use it if remove the new partition.
