Xbox One Wireless Controller charges via PC USB but won't turn on

When I have my Xbox One wireless controller plugged in to my PC, it charges but it doesn't show up as a wired gamepad, even after charging for a while, or even if it's fully charged. It will connect to Bluetooth once it's charged some, though. How do I use it while it's connected to the PC, like a wired controller? At least until it charges enough to turn on the Bluetooth again?


I'm using the Play and Charge Kit. I'm also on the October Windows 10 update, but it's been doing this ever since I bought the controller last year. I've tried other USB ports, with no avail.

Great, I let it turn off, and now it won't connect anymore. Just blinks while it's plugged into the PC. STILL can't use it as a wired controller, either.

Alright, I figured it out. I used a USB transfer cable for phones, and it connects as a wired gamepad now. But when I disconnect it, the guide button just blinks and won't connect most of the time, unless I reboot once or twice.

Mine, the one that came with my XBOX One, worked Ok on my PC. With the play and charge cable and another USB cable I had kicking around. With and without the rechargeable batteries in it. My rechargeables have died and I just have regular batteries in it now.
One thing I did notice is after using it on my PC, I had to relink it to my XBOX for it to work on my XBOX wirelessly. Which is a bit of a pain.

Yeah, mine just seems to hate me.

So what is the issue? Just crappy drivers? I managed to get it to connect again via Bluetooth, thankfully.

I don't know? I haven't used mine on my PC in a long time. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure I was running Windows 10 then to be honest. Might have been Windows 8?

This one only works with Windows 10 Anniversary Update and up. It's the Bluetooth one.

I'm just using the one that came with my XBOX One. My PC doesn't have Bluetooth so its only ever been connected to that via USB. Plugging it into my PC via USB breaks the XBOX wireless connection. I have to relink it to get it working again on my XBOX afterwards.
I had a plug and play pack but the battery eventually died. I kept the cable. I use it when the batteries in the controller die and I don't have any spares on hand. It's the only really nice long USB cable I have.
