Making an Xbox 360 Kinect work on Win 10 x64?

I picked up an original Xbox 360 Kinext and USB/power adapter for under $15. I'd like to use it for 3D scanning but so far haven't been able to get it working.

I've found some old info, and a ton of people who have reading comprehension problems telling people asking about the Xbox 360 Kinect how to make the Xbox One Kinect work.

I *could* put together a computer with Windows 7 to use it, but would much rather get it working on 10 on my laptop. I do have a white Xbox 360 but no games for Kinect.

    No success with that.

I installed the 1.8 SDK, Runtime and Developer Toolkit. All parts of the Kinext are recognized in Device Manager.

Some of the examples partially work, sporadically. One audio example ran a waveform display and moved a pointer in the direction of sounds. Another showed changing accelerometer values when I moved the device but its other functions did nothing. Others either claim there's no Kinect found or claim that some other app is using it.

At no time have I gotten any video from its camera.

Crazy that this isn't easy to get working. I found a very old 352x240 resolution Logitech USB camera, plugged it into a USB port and it just effing worked, very crappily, but it worked.

Kscan3D 1.2, which I had to dig out of the web archive, finds the Kinect and the test of it seems to work.
