I have a tablet PC that I would really like to use Win10 on -- but is has the INFAMOUS Intel 915GM chipset and, as many of you already know, that requires XPDM drivers -- which do not work under Win8 or Win10.
So, since I haven't checked on this for quite a while, I'm asking the community here if anyone is aware of any recent work that has been done to craft Win10-working drivers for this chipset.
Been there, done that. Nope. No WDDM drivers or any other trick for Intel 915GM graphics. Windows 10 will install the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter which has no hardware acceleration and any 3D graphics (even the screensavers) will be rather slow, making your system look slower than it is. I would stick with Windows 7 32-bit and Windows XP 32-bit drivers (XPDM) which won't install directly. You may have to extract the files in a folder using WinRAR or other archiver and then manually force-install the driver from Device Manager.

Intel 915 series (GMA 900) graphics chipsets are soooooo weak and will never work on Win8 and Win10 since these OSes removed XPDM graphics support.
that's right, Mark. nothing has changed for about a decade on this as there were no modded/hacked WDDM drivers that will make the Intel GMA 900 series (aka 910/915) graphics work on newer versions of Windows greater than Win7. many have tried and failed miserably.
My uncle's old Dell Latitude D410 laptop also uses the same Intel 915GM integrated chipset as the one in your tablet PC although his laptop is using WinXP Pro SP3 and has not been upgraded to either WinVista or Win7 due to inadequate amount of RAM (it originally had 512Mb of RAM but I put in 1Gb of RAM a few years ago) and a slow hard drive (a 40Gb HDD). I don't see him much as I really don't know if he's still using that old Dell laptop or if he traded it for a new one.

Golden rule: If there are no WDDM graphics drivers (at least for Vista 32-bit), avoid installing Windows 8 or 10. The reason is that you are stuck with Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver (software only, no acceleration) and the computer seems 5 times slower than it really is. not only that, but it seems that the 1809 release of win10 has severe problems running on intel 915gm chipsets (and the Intel Pentium M CPUs used on the 915gm) as someone in this MSFN forum thread could not run neither the 1803 nor the 1809 release on his MSI 915GM Speedster FA4 machine. newer win10 versions will either freeze/hang or crash with BSODs using Intel 915gm hardware.
current & future versions of win10 (like the upcoming 19h1 release) may continue to break or drop support for intel 915gm hardware altogether, so OP should just buy a new PC that can run newer Win10 versions; OP's tablet PC is just too darn old (and too slow) to run win10
You should give the standard vga driver a try. Sometimes it's not as bad as it seems to be. I have even played Youtube videos properly with it.
What do you mean by "standard vga driver"?
If you mean the one that MS installs by default, that is TERRIBLE -- at least, on anything newer than Win7. The lag is so bad as to make the PC unusable.
Thus, the PC remains, to this day, running Win7 -- as that is the last version that supports the XPDM driver.
