    Shopping For A New LaserJet

Looking hard at an HP LaserJet Pro 400 M402dw https://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-laserjet-pro-m402dw. I'm interested in your comments / opinions, good or bad.

    As always, thanks.

    Wiley / Clayton,

1 Keep your nerve and try waiting to see if HP start up a cashback offer like they did in Nov-Dec last year. I bought an HP M477fdw [combined printer-scanner] for 350-100=250 during this offer. You can monitor all HP promotional offers through HP Global Promotion Services

2 Do consider buying a combined printer-scanner. It will cost more, say an extra 25%-40%, compared to a dedicated printer.

    Best of luck,
    Denis

Good point. I was surprised at how toner cost has gone up since my last LJ.

I'm still wondering how long toner lasts.

I bought a cheap Brother laser in 2007. I'm still on the original toner without any issues.

I use an HP OfficeJet and an HP LaserJet. The LaserJet is monochrome but I have been looking at a color laser, amazing that the printer is cheaper than the toner cartridges, sometimes cheaper than a single cartridge and there usually is 4 needed. But then the inkjet printers are similar. I have a client that got a new inkjet fro $20USD less than the 2 cartridges for their old one.

I got out of the color printers. Switched to mono HP Laser jet years back no problems, just on my second toner now. LOL

This is the third Ink Jet I've had, and while it's been the best performer it is still a PITA that I never had with any or all of the Laser Jets. LOL, I'd rather have a good old Dot Matrix than an Ink Jet.

    Clayton,

"PITA" - that was the same reason I bought a laser to replace an inkjet. I only needed a printer once every few months and often spent an hour cleaning the jets to be able to print what I wanted. By contrast and even with the same intermittent use pattern, I have had no problem with just turning the laser on then printing whenever I have needed to.

Since I was replacing a colour combined printer-scanner, I was in the frame of mind to get a colour laser combined printer-scanner. I went further than that to some extent by getting one with a double-sided sheet feeder for the scanner and it has proved such a time-saver that I would do the same again if I needed another.
