Is Firewire IEEE 1394 still supported by Windows 10 ?

    Hello
I have a Nikon Coolscan (Firewire connexion) that worked fine with Windows 7
I changed for a new computer with Windows 7 - 64 bits and my former IEEE 1394 Firewire adapter did not work anymore (no driver available)
I searched on the web and found an adapter by Startech - Their representative told me that it would be automatically recognized by Windows 10but in my case, it does not work
After many searches on the Web, I'm not sure if this type of adapter is still supported by Windows 7 as the answers are multiple and confusing -
What is the status of this technoloogy adnd how could I use this slides scanner ?

    Thanks for any help !

If you can find a driver it should work - my Firewire port works fine in Windows 10 latest version with an old driver.

Is it a driver for an internal card or an adapter you are looking for exactly? What is the model number?

Firewire 400 and 800 working OK for me in Win 10. My recording studio audio interface unit is running on Firewire (MOTU 896Mk3 Hybrid).

I have a PCIe card that works with MS driver 10.0.17134.1 on my 1803 system.

It is a Rosewill brand from Amazon.

    T hanks for your advices
    The problem is :
I bought a PCI express Firewire adapter (Startech), installed it on an ASUS motherboard and using Windows 10 - 64 Bits

The adapter does not appear when I go to Configuration panel ==> System ==> Device manager

and I have the following answers :

    - The representative from Starec (adapter manufacturer) says that the adapter should appear immediately on the list of devices because Windows would recognize it and load the appropriate driver
    - The person who built the computer says that a Firewire device should be connected ad powered in order to see the adapter listed on the list of devices
    - The representative from the motherboaed manufacture r (ASUS) says that the Firewire is an "old" technolog y and thus, is not supported by the last motherboards

Whom should I belive and where is the truth ?

    Thanks for any comment

    1)link your firewire card.
    2)what motherboard you have?

-The card when u put it on motherboard it should appear immediately on device manager.
    - power only needed when the camera cant recognized from firewire controller and not all cards have external power.

give the above information. In your information you said you have gigabyte motherboard now u said asus.

Have you considered a Firewire to TB adapter? Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter - Apple this one is supposed to supply 7watts of power to firewire. I think I would look in this direction to keep an obsolete technology working on modern equipment.

This might help you, as presumably this is also not in Windows 10:

Helmut: this cant help him because he is said the the firewire don't exist in device manager.

clntlgm: the obsolete tech has nothing to do that a pcie card don't recognized in the bios. Or the slot is broken, or it is dirty ,or he must go into bios to reset to default especially if it is uefi bios with ultra fast enabled or he must change pcie slot.

If the model of firewire has the amsedia1083 pcie to pci bridge it dont work reliably with ryzen.
