    Sound Card Buffer (?) Issue

I have a weird issue with my sound card. Whenever it starts playing audio when nothing was playing before, it takes a second before starting up, then it suddenly plays a very loud popping noise followed by the rest of the audio. Switching to another audio source when the first one is already playing does not cause this to happen. My current theory is that something is going wrong with the audio buffer, and it's playing whatever is in the first little section of the audio all at once, resulting in the extremely loud beep and cut off beginning from my audio. Currently I am avoiding this with a program I wrote that just plays a silent wav file on loop indefinitely. It works for now, but it's not very elegant, and sometimes it needs to be restarted if an application takes exclusive control of the audio card. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this?

I have two audio drivers at the moment: One that says Intel(R) Display Audio, and one that says Realtek Audio. I am not sure which of them does what, and I'm a bit reluctant to mess around with them.

The Intel is for HDMI audio.
    Realtek is the PC audio.
Which are you using, HDMI or standard PC audio with speakers?

What is the standard media player you use for audio playback?
Could it be something you have in startup causing this?

More questions than an answer. I do support on the Dell forums and have not seen this problem ever posted.

This is on a laptop, I'm not using HDMI audio. I only ever use the laptop speakers and headphones, and it happens for both of those. It doesn't matter what media player I use because this happens with all sound, not just audio from media players. I don't think it's anything I have in startup. I have my own program that I mentioned above for my workaround in startup, but everything else is standard (I think). What should I be looking for in startup that would affect this?

As a start, download and run the free Resplendence Latency Mon. See what that tells you. May be clue to the problem.
Startup was a thought. Many users have programs in startup that aren't needed.

LatencyMon doesn't seem to show any issues.

    Unless I'm reading it wrong?

That looks good but I would run it for more than 40 seconds. Run it for 5 minutes.
