Audio drivers broken after Windows update

Hello, after I updated my laptop to the newest windows version (1803) my audio stopped working. It jus says that there are no audio devices connected and because I have a laptop I can't "unplug and plug back in" the devices.

In device manager there is a "another devices" tab with Intel High Definition Audio with a yellow exclamation mark. In the properties for it it says there are no drivers installed for this device and when I click on "update driver" it tries to do it but fails.

The microphone doesnt work either, all of my audio is gone.

Quick edit, the audio works fine with my tv plugged in via HDMI but I still don't know why it isnt working in the laptop itself.

Try clicking "Update driver", "Browse my computer for driver software", then "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer". If one is found, install it. You may have to restart the computer for the change to take effect.

The newest version is actually 1809. I mention this as a lot of people rushed to get update when first released and you used words like after I updated.

There was this update

I went to Intel and used this tool to check my drivers and find latest.

A word of caution... if your laptop customized drivers in anyway the pure Intel drivers could cause issues. Please ensure you have a System Image available created by a tool like Macrium Reflect

You can also check with your machine vendor.

Can you supply the full model number for your HP Omen laptop? That would make it possible to suggest a download site for the drivers that you need.

Does anyone have any other ideas on how to fix the "No audio output device is installed" issue? I bought this computer yesterday and spent 9 hours uninstalling, reinstalling, disabling, enabling, tech support live chat, reset system twice and still cannot fix it. Looking for any ideas that are not already out there. I am probably going to just take it back to the store and give up as I am so frustrated and disappointed that even tech support could not fix it.

What version of Windows 10 are you on?

What is the full make and model of your laptop?

If you open device manager I assume there at least one adapter with a yellow exclamation mark.

Right click device you are having issue with, click “Properties”, click on “Details” tab, in “Property” box use the drop down to select “Hardware IDs”, copy and paste first line in “Value” box to to your next post please?

Many are stating this problem after updating to 1809, the strange thing which has appeared is that the error states Intel audio but it appears for some it’s a misnomer as they have Realtek audio & it is updating that driver which has corrected the problem.

In reading I'm getting hints that the Intel update is over writing the other sound driver which would support your statement Bastet.

That’s the impression I have too Caledon Ken. When I updated to 1809 I had a message saying the Intel driver/audio device would be disabled on installing, I have Realtek audio but Intel graphics card (onboard) so sound did work fine, I then tried duplicating the PC screen to my TV & sound didn’t work, I checked within device manager & all said it was working fine so I uninstalled the Intel audio driver & scanned for hardware changes & all is now fine.

I think, and this needs to be be confirmed, that I saw somewhere that the WU carrying the Intel update has been ..... either paused or pulled.

It has been one H3!! of a week. They really have to slow this down. 1809 not ready for prime time, 1809 CU updates causing boot issues with HP's (and Dell ??) devices, Intel driver stepping on others. They need a different approach to release and fire fight.

Oh well, backup and then backup again.
