11 Mt. Old P51 SSD Status Shows Health Has Dropped From 100% to 99%

So this is the first notebook that I have owned with an SSD (238GB SAMSUNG MZVPW256HEGL-000L7). Hard Disk Sentinel which runs in the background and which I look at most every day to check the temps shows for the first time that the SSD that came with the notebook (still under warranty) the health has degraded 1%. I believe I know that SSDs do degrade over time but I would like your opinion whether or not this is normal and or whether or not this is something that I should be concerned with and possibly even take action over. TIA.

The "health" percentage is calculated by the tool, not the drive itself. So unless you know the precise formula HD Sentinel uses, a 1% difference doesn't tell you much.

You would have to look at the actual SMART attributes and see which ones are degrading over time.

With modern drives I personally wouldn't worry about it. Regardless of how new or old your drive is you should keep backups of your data.

To start with that program is not exactly good for checking SSDs. more geared toward HDDs. Life left/health are calculated using time used and how old it is, nothing to do with actual health. As long as there's no warnings or bad sectors.

I've had an oldish SSD that's been on 99% for around 2 years, never changes so not bothered.

    Thanks for that info.

I think CPUID HWMonitor does that but I don't really know how to get that info from that app

    Copy that.

What SSDs and HDDs do is write all events they are programmed to in SMART memory. It's up to programs to display and interpret them.
