Some W10 Update is preventing my HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 from working!

    Ouch!

My HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 working wirelessly, stopped working.
What a coincidence after the 1809 upgrade!

I went to HP's support site hoping to upgrade the software package but noticed that it wasn't updated.

Printer is just out of warranty and they wouldn't help me. I uninstalled and reinstalled the entire package with the same result - no connectivity. However, When I downloaded the "HP Smart" app from the Microsoft Store, the printer was instantly recognized and worked fine, except that it didn't have all the HP tools that I wanted that are available on HP's site.

    Code:
    https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-officejet-pro-8610-e-all-in-one-printer-series/5367603
The old (2015) suite did detect the printer but just kept going in a loop trying to complete the install.

    Any ideas?

    TIA!

I would uninstall printer and drivers again. Then power off printer.

Install the latest software from HP, what ever it is.

At some point it is likely to say it can't find printer, power on device. If it never asks wait until install complete.

Do you have IPv6 enabled? Just interested?

    @Caledon Ken -

I do have IPv6 enabled (W10 defaults to this.)

As for the software in the above link, it has not been updated since 2015.

Tried your trick for the heck of it but it fails in the end.

    Then after a few minutes...

I then removed the HP Smart app which W10 installed for me on it's own and tried again without result.

Printer works fine from W10 Build 1803 and W7 Pro.

So when it gave you that panel with retry did you power on printer and click retry?

The other thing I could suggest is install locally, then disconnect and make it a network. Add a network printer and it should ask to use the same driver, say yes.

    Try as I might...

1809 did hose my wireless printer, as my 1803 works fine.

Tried everything I could think of, but I cannot get the full suite of Printer Tools installed over the network.

Going back to 1803 was unclean, so I decided to re-image the beast from scratch, take a full backup and postpone 1809 until I can find out what happened with this printer. Unfortunately, HP does not have a "clean removal tool" for their software which has left at least 100 traces behind in the registry and filesystem post uninstall.

The HP Smart app form the MS Store works fairly well but does not include all the features that I need.

    What a mess!

    Thanks for the help.

Hearing noise on other fronts for 1809.

I don't convert my main machine for at least a week after release.

Do you use Macrium or similar tool. I strongly recommend you explorer. Makes fall backup dead simple and fast.

I found a solution for this behaviour : Right click on the installer from hp (.exe file) and run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter. It worked with a W7 configuration. Before that I did run the sfc /scannow command in cmd, as recommended by HP, which my have helped.

I had similar problems with my 8610 shortly after 1909 was installed - I think it was the KB 4530684 or 4533002 updates that hosed it. The 'network printer' install initiated after visting the HP site failed (as yours - I had assumed later would be better), so I installed from scratch the original s/w that came on a DVD in 2015. That worked.
