Intel software updater and it finding undeeded Thunderbolt driver

Intel software updater said my laptop needed Thunderbolt 3 drivers. I had no idea what they were so downloaded and allowed them to be installed. When I reran the updater it again said the drivers were needed and non were installed so did it again. It was odd as the install had to uninstall drivers that were said not installed. I then found what thunderbolt is and my 4 year old windows laptop doesn’t have any such hardware installed.
Is this a new problem or one I could block in future?

It’s a bug, you only require the Thunderbolt driver if you have an NUC mini computer, it was offered to everyone by mistake.
The good news is they’ve fixed it.
Uninstall Thunderbolt & rescan it should not find it again.

Hardware driver is best downloaded from your computer manufacture there support website will identify your Serial number and have drivers for your specific model. If you know exactly what you are doing you can go to vendors website and download hardware drivers but you have to have basic knowledge of each component and that these drivers will work on your model computer. And that you have a way back should you have a bad experience. This is accomplished by having back up images of your OS Hard Drive/SSD Macrium Reflect Free is a good program to use. We have a great tutorial in this forum to help you learn how to use it. Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect | Windows 10 Tutorials
