Hi jamesrichard123. Welcome to the TenForums @jamesrichard123

Have you tried re-installing the latest printer software from Canon? If not that would be my first recommendation.

Some printers installs are cranky in terms of install order, you need to install software before turning on printer. If you don't Windows installs it's driver and things are never quite as they should be. Please check your instructions.

Also set your printer to be the default. Windows now has the capability to manage the default printer which can cause issues.

Start > Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners, scroll down right hand side and remove check mark.

I guess I should ask is this a relatively new issue? Can you relate it to any other change, maybe a new router, a change in position of router or printer, etc?

I sometimes get an error light on my Canon photo printer which clears when I switch off the printer at the mains then switch on.

    Hi jamesrichard123

How old is this device? Not that it should matter but I had a client with an older HP device that constantly went offline. Try all kinds of things but the eventual fix was to replace device. Not saying this is your solution, just saying what I did.

Could you tell us how is this printer connected, wireless network, wired network, USB direct?

If you look at devices in settings is there two similarly named, one with the word (copy) in it.

Have you reserved the IP address for your printer in the router. That or force an IP address outside the range of the DHCP server. Example. Sme routers start handing out address at 100 so 192.168.1.100. So you would force the IP of printer to be 192.168.1.95.

I prefer the reserving address in router. Most routers allow for a reservation. This way your hardware MAC address for your printer always gets assigned the same address.
