@Caledon Ken, yeah but Lazesoft has said they were corrupted files. When I clicked to restore them to the external hard drive, they show up but won’t open. It says I have to open them with a different program. I’m guessing it’s the programs she had installed on the computer to sew.
The Hard Drive is finally in.
The Dell OS Recovery and Restore USB Key doesn't work. When I boot from it, the following message appears "Protection Error... Unable to continue booting process. Some informations are corrupted or missing!!!". On the other hand, I downloaded the Dell Recovery & Restore for this computer to my flash drive and booted from it. The hard drive checks out okay. It did some fixes to the partition table and some other thing, and now it is backing up the data to her external drive. Then, hopefully it will continue with the restore process.
But my question is: Why didn't this Dell USB Key that Dell sent me work? They won't help me anymore. They keep saying the computer is out of warranty, and I will be charged a fee to get help from them.
On a UEFI system you probably need to turn off Secure Boot. See Step 2 here...
