    Well data sounds like it is gone. I assume your cousin has license to software that that shouldn't be an issue getting the programs from the source.

    I would be concentrating on C:\users\name\documents

    That is where the data should be.

    Now, when I install the new drive, does it come blank or does it come with Windows already loaded on it from Dell?

    Likely blank.

    What you can do in the mean time is review jumanji's and SIW2 intructions on reloading Win 7.

    You can also review the tear down videos on Youtube. I would watch twice before trying, at least I do. Handy to have some small containers for different bits.

    You could also download and read the Service Manual for the Dell Inspiron N7110 (I think that's what you said it was). Dell manuals are good, with illustrated instructions for replacing all the parts. You can get it here.
