Well with a 5TB drive you know where the backups are going when she gets past this.
I wish all the stores basically handed you something that said this is what we recommend you do to protect your asset. We can do it or you can do it but it should be done. That or the vendors should have a routine built in that says we recommend you do these things.
The reality is not a lot of people are tech savvy. They buy something, it works and life goes on.
I could say that about mechanical too. Most of us can't fix our car but we know you need to change your oil, you should get an inspection periodically, you need insurance. This info has been past down to us from our parents.
This doesn't happen with Tech and it is not taught anywhere. Where would the average person learn about recovery media or backups. At least with a fridge or dishwasher you get a printed manual. IF you decide not to read is not the vendor's fault. A PC comes with a quick start guide, plug in, turn on, the good life awaits.

Update: So I did a deep scan for partitions with Lazesoft and it has in fact found the hidden Windows partition. How do I recover it in this program?

Click on the windows partition > click ok> select Repair tools tab > lost partition recovery

It is 2 different things.
Partition recovery ( if successful) restores the partition exactly as it was. Of course everything on the recovered partition should be accessible as before.
Data recovery just recovers files/folders - you will need to tell the data recovery program where to copy the recovered data to. Therefore you need another drive attached which is big enough to hold the recovered data.
Never attempt to recover data back onto the drive it came from. It must be a different drive.
